Sidewalk & Curb Complaints
810 N Walnut St
- Case Date:

Every time it rains our street floods severely and then backs up onto the sidewalks and coats them in a thick layer of mud. It’s a combination of heavy storms that the storm drain on the corner of 12th and Walnut cannot keep up with and a residual problem caused by the fiberware that was installed last year. Ever since they dug up the corner of 12th and Walnut the ground is nothing but mud and has been slowly taking over the sidewalk. It is unsafe to walk on as it is incredibly slippery and is at least an inch thick.
Blocked Street

The North/South alley between 810 W. 7th and 804 W. 7th is being encroached upon by gardens, woodpiles, trees/vegetation and possibly the fence and cinder block garage owned by 810 W 7th St.
As a result, the alley traffic is being diverted outside of the alley right of way and onto the private property located at 804 W. 7th. This appears to have been going on for a number of years.
As the new owner of 804 W. 7th St., it is my full intention to re-claim the property/property line currently being encroached upon and proceed with renovations. I request that the Street Dept contact the owner of 810 W. 7th and order the encroachments be removed.
With the assistance of a surveyor, I have located the NW and SW corner pins delineating the right of way and pounded new T posts just outside of the right of way in those spots and plan to post the entire property line once the encroachments are removed.
Were I to reclaim the property line today, the alley would become impassible due to said encroachments. I request your assistance in remedying this situation in a civil and legal manner, as requests to the homeowner of 810 W.7th have fallen upon deaf ears.
I request that you keep me in the loop regarding this issue. I would be happy to meet with a representative of the street dept, with survey in hand, to assist in clarifying and remedying this issue, as renovations of 804 W. 7th will begin in a few weeks.
Thank you for your attention in this manner,
Sincerely,
Rick Laux

Construction site on N College Ave just south of the train tracks has a truck and mini-lift parked on the sidewalk. I witnessed it at 11:30am this morning July 6. Sorry i didn't have my camera on me. Thanks!

There's a path that connects The Park On Morton apartment complex (W Georgia Ave) to N College Ave. It runs between the train tracks and private property. I have no idea whose responsibility it is but it's in poor shape now. Mud has washed across a lot of it (some from construction, and some from an unstabilized hillside), and weeds have grown almost entirely across it. Thanks!

There is a ton of trash on the porch of this house. Looks like no one actually lives there. Can the City require that it be cleaned up?

Transient Camping: I heard someone talking in the trees while walking my dog this morning about 8:30 and noticed an occupied black and gray tent here. There is also something blue, maybe clothing, hanging from a nearby branch. It is not far into the tree line on the east side of the rail trail. The closest road is Church Lane (easily walkable from the parking lot), about 100 feet north of the pedestrian roundabout (west to Victor Pike, south to Church Lane, north to That Road) and maybe 50 feet north of the roundabout sign that sits north of the roundabout itself. I do not want transient camping to become a norm near the trail and would like them moved along.

There is a light on the property that neighbors my house that violates the light trespass laws. It sits high on a pole in their back yard and subsequently illuminates my backyard as well as both bedrooms in my house. This light is extremely bright and because of this we have had trouble sleeping due to the light coming in to our bedroom. Also because of this light we have not been able to enjoy sitting on our back porch in the evenings due to the light shining directly in to our eyes. I’ve also talked to the neighbor on the other side of the house and she is having issues as well with the light shining on her property. The property that owns the light is currently vacant. I’d like for something to be done about this as it has become a major nuisance to my household.
