Dear City of Bloomington Traffic and Transportation Department,
I am writing on behalf of The Fields Apartments to formally request a traffic safety evaluation and improvements along Fenbrook Lane and Covenanter Drive within our apartment community.
We have become increasingly concerned about the number of vehicles traveling at excessive speeds along these streets. With our community continuing to grow and welcoming more families with children, pedestrian safety has become a significant concern for both residents and management.
We have received multiple requests from residents asking that speed bumps or other traffic-calming measures be installed to help reduce vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for everyone.
These streets are frequently used by residents walking their pets, families with young children, and individuals enjoying our community's outdoor spaces. The continued speeding presents an unnecessary risk, and we would like to take proactive steps to address this issue before an accident occurs.
We respectfully request that the City evaluate these roadways and consider the installation of speed bumps, speed humps, or other appropriate traffic-calming measures to encourage drivers to slow down.
The safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority, and we believe these improvements would make a meaningful difference in protecting our growing community.
Please let us know the appropriate process for submitting this request, whether a traffic study is required, and what steps may be necessary to move forward.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to working together to make Fenbrook Lane and Covenanter Drive safer for our residents and the surrounding community.
Sincerely,
Tawnia Ames

I just moved into my home in April 2026, and I thought that Sherwood Oaks was a safe neighborhood. However, in the past few months I have lived here, I have witnessed several close calls with cars excessively speeding down Allendale, most notably in front of my house, almost hitting pedestrians and bicyclists, including children. I know the neighborhood has rallied together to try to get traffic calming devices installed, such as speed humps, and I understand why that is not favorable. But could the City at least put up speed limit signs along Allendale to remind drivers to slow down? A fawn was recently hit in front of my house due to a car speeding down the road. I would really hate for it to be someone's child.
Thanks for your consideration,
Rebecca

Please re-paint this yellow curb a brighter yellow. It is often in shadow and I think this leads it to look more gray causing people to mistake it for a parking spot.

Whoever responded asked questions, but did so from a no- reply email, so I've gotta do this to get the answers back to the city. Please review this process. Here's the quoted text from my attempted email replies:
Thanks for your quick reply and your questions. All of the neighbors on this small street will appreciate any improvement.
The westbound lanes get blocked, especially from 1500-1800.
Yancy Ln only goes north off third, so the westbound/northern side of third is the offending area.
It's a _|_ intersection with no southern branch which is hard to notice in the first place.
Now it's about to be crammed between McD's and Chick-fil-A. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for your time and help with the problem at West Third and Yancy. This 3-way, "T" intersection is often blocked. There is no white paint or 'Don't Block the Box' signage. I say leave it clean and ticket people who block it. Get some revenue. The problem will get worse with the completion of Chik-Fil-A.

Please continue the double yellow line on N Morton St from 6th St all the way up to 11th St. There is a small section that stops at the N Morton St and W 9th St intersection and just past the 8th St intersection. People do not know how to use the space they have available on their side of the road without this.

We would like to request a slowdown sign or a lower speed limit on our street 20th St. people have been coming off the highway onto our street doing 40mph until they hit Arlington road. This is a neighborhood with children and a daycare.

I truly can't understand why the city keeps putting in speed bumps with no signage and no indication that they are there. I drove down Washington St for the first time in a long time...the speed bumps caught me and my car off guard. I really feel like they should have yellow paint and/or a sign. The white arrows don't stand up enough and especially on the sections of the road that are in shade...it was impossible for me to tell if there was a speed bump or not. I understand the need for speed bumps, I would just like them to be appropriately marked.

Winslow, E Rogers, High Street Roundabout
- Case Date:

Due to the current bridge reconstruction detour on Rhorer, all east-west traffic is being funneled through the E Rogers and Winslow roundabout. A 3-way stop approximately 0.25 miles west at Sherwood Oaks neighborhood is causing gridlock to back up directly into the roundabout every day between roughly 5:00 PM and 5:40 PM. Eastbound cars are completely blocking the north entrance, starving out those drivers and breaking Indiana Code ยง 9-21-8-36. Please investigate temporary mitigation, such as 'Do Not Block Intersection' signage or temporary traffic control at the 3-way stop during peak rush hour. Alternatively, a flagger at the Winslow Sherwood Oaks Neighborhood entrance might be more helpful and limit cars trying to cut through the neighborhood to avoid traffic going East on Winslow.

It is difficult to see traffic coming from the left when attempting to turn from Telluride onto Arlington in either direction. It is also difficult to see traffic from the right when turning left on to Arlington from the new SR 45/46 bypass exit. With the speed limit at 40 mph and people driving faster than 40 mph, both of these areas are dangerous to pull out from. Would it be possible to reduce the speed limit or at least add some signs to let traffic on Arlington know to watch for people pulling out? Thanks!
