Josefa Madrigal Named Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor

Bloomington, Ind. – Mayor John Hamilton announced today that Josefa Madrigal, a former Bloomington police officer and the current Latino Outreach Coordinator for the City of Bloomington’s Community and Family Resources Department, will become Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor, effective February 24.

Madrigal is a twenty-year Bloomington resident who grew up in East Chicago, Indiana. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in General Studies with a concentration in arts and humanities and a minor in Spanish. After graduating from IU, she worked as a police officer for IUPD and the Bloomington Police Department and served as a domestic violence and survivors’ advocate. She has served on the boards of El Centro Comunal Latino and United Way of Monroe County.  For the last six years, Madrigal has been the Latino Outreach Coordinator for the City of Bloomington’s Community and Family Resources Department.

"I am very excited and thankful for Mayor Hamilton selecting me for this position,” said Josefa Madrigal. “I recognize the importance of this position to ensure that the Office of the Mayor stays on track with the priorities not only of the City of Bloomington but also with our community members."

The Chief of Staff is responsible for overseeing Mayor’s Office operations; providing professional assistance to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor; and collaborating with City leadership on major projects, strategic planning, and policy and budget implementation. Madrigal will earn an annual salary of $62,000.

“I have been fortunate in my time as Mayor of Bloomington to work with many people of high quality and character, and Josefa is no exception,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “She brings rich and meaningful experience, a commitment to the City of Bloomington, and a record of outstanding public service.”

The Chief of Staff position became vacant at the beginning of the year when Kaisa Goodman moved from that position to Public Engagement Director, following changes put into effect when former Deputy Mayor Don Griffin resigned to focus on his own Mayoral campaign.
