City to Host Hopewell Update Meeting Oct. 27
The City of Bloomington will host a public meeting on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene, 700 W. Howe Street. The meeting will update residents on the redevelopment of the former IU Health Bloomington Hospital site and several related projects underway in the surrounding area. This meeting is open to the public and will conclude with time for questions from attendees.
Residents will hear updates on:
- Hopewell South, the first City-led residential phase, where plans call for 98 homes along new streets, lanes, sidewalks, and other neighborhood infrastructure;
- Hopewell Commons, including park improvements, public art, and nearby roadway work;
- the proposed reuse of 714 S. Rogers Street as a public safety facility;
- Second Street improvements, including bicycle, pedestrian, transit, signal, stormwater, lighting, and accessibility upgrades; and
- a brief update on Opportunity Zones and what the designation could mean for future investment in the area.
The meeting will also be available through Community Access Television Services (CATS), with a recording available afterward, at catstv.net.
Hopewell is the City-led redevelopment of the former IU Health Bloomington Hospital site and surrounding properties. The City began master planning for the area in 2020 after IU Health relocated its hospital.
With the City serving as petitioner for Hopewell South, the development process also gives staff a direct view of where City requirements, review processes, or permitting steps may create delays or unnecessary complexity. The City is using that experience to identify potential development bottlenecks and inform broader work to improve how housing moves from concept to construction in Bloomington.
Residents interested in purchasing a home at Hopewell South, following the project, or receiving future updates can complete the City’s Hopewell interest form.
