City of Bloomington Celebrates Local-Motion Grant Program Recipients

The City of Bloomington is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2023 Local-Motion Grant Program, an initiative aimed at promoting pedestrian and bicycle mobility within the city. The program, which opened its application cycle earlier this year, welcomed submissions from a variety of organizations committed to advancing sustainable transportation options. Awarded by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission, this grant program seeks to foster a diverse and vibrant walking and bicycling culture by providing direct support to innovative projects.

The City of Bloomington is proud to recognize the following organizations as recipients of the 2023 Local-Motion Grant Program:

  1. Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington: As part of its mission to empower young people to reach their full potential, the Boys and Girls Clubs host a Club Riders Program aimed at teaching children to safely and effectively bike while learning bicycle maintenance skills
  2. MCCSC Adult Education: To further enhance career opportunities and support adult education, MCCSC will launch a Borrow a Bike program to encourage students to bike to and from class, promoting the benefits of cycling in daily life.
  3. Monroe County Public Library: Continuing to offer children opportunities to read, learn, and create, the library will expand its Storywalk program, bringing picture books to life along paths at local parks, combining education and outdoor activities.
  4. YMCA of Monroe County: Working side-by-side with their neighbors and community to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, the YMCA will continue hosting its annual Bike 4 All event that benefits the YMCA For All scholarship fund, allowing underserved children and families to access its programs.

“It is truly inspiring to witness remarkable organizations in our community dedicated to promoting walking and biking,” said Hank Duncan, City of Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. “This commitment to outdoor programming and events complements the City’s emphasis on complete streets and low-stress infrastructure, fostering a comprehensive approach to walking and biking that significantly enriches our community.”

The City of Bloomington congratulates the recipients of the 2023 Local-Motion Grant Program and looks forward to the positive impact these projects will have on enhancing pedestrian and bicycle mobility within our community.
