Night Time paving on E 3rd St.; Improvement to Bryan Park Pool’s Limestone Lagoon; and Work Continues on the Bicentennial Bond Griffy Loop Trail Project

Numerous infrastructure improvement projects are underway this season to advance community goals, including safety, sustainability, accessibility, equity, economic vitality, and quality of life in Bloomington. The City will provide regular public updates on a range of these improvements as they progress. The City makes every effort to provide residents and visitors with updated and accurate information though all projects schedules are weather dependent.

PARKS & RECREATION

Pool repairs and seasonal closings -

Contractors today installed a new pump drive control for the Limestone Lagoon spray features at the Bryan Park Pool, activating the mushroom spray feature for the first time this year. The feature had been inactive while a part was backordered. With school starting next week, Mills Pool will be closing for the season after Sunday, July 30. The Bryan Park Pool will remain open daily through Tuesday, August 1. After that date, the pool will be open from 11am to 7pm on weekends only through Labor Day weekend, including the Monday holiday, after which the pool will be closed for the season.

Griffy Dam Crossing & South Shore Trail -

Contractors are continuing work on the Griffy Dam Trail Crossing and Griffy South Shore Trail as part of the Bicentennial Bond Griffy Loop Trail project. This week, contractors began installation of the fencing along the top of the dam that will allow trail users to safely cross from end to end. When complete, the trail across the dam will have fencing on both sides and will have a new staircase built for access to the parking lot below the dam.

Contractors working on the four-mile South Shore Trail have roughed in almost a mile of new trail to date as they work on the trails south of the dam. These trails remain closed for safety until complete, which is expected later in 2023. For a look at how the trails will connect and more project information, visit the project page on the Parks and Recreation website.

Trail closures for vegetation work -

Parks and Recreation staff members are currently working on seasonal trimming of overgrowth along the city’s various trails and paths. Last week, staff members completed trimming work along the Polly Grimshaw Trail. On Monday, July 31, a one-day closure of the B-Line between Moravec and Adams St is planned to allow Urban Forestry and Vegetation Management crews access to safely remove overgrowth and conduct tree work. During the week of August 7-11, a two-day closure of the Rail Trail between Rogers St. and the Clear Creek Trail roundabout is planned to conduct similar trimming. Specific dates for the closures will be weather-dependent and will be communicated with signage and via social media. Closures will remain partial as much as possible to allow for continued trail access, but some full closures will be necessary for the safety of trail users.
