City Reports Eight New COVID-19 Employee Cases

Bloomington, Ind. – Eight City workers have reported positive results of COVID-19 tests since the July 28 update, including three Parks and Recreation (Parks) employees, one City Hall (City Hall) employee, two Bloomington Fire Department (BFD) employees, and two Bloomington Police Department (BPD) employees.

 

Details of the cases are as follows: 

 

  • One Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on July 30 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

  • A second Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on July 31 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on August 1. There were no close contacts.

 

  • A third Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on August 1 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on August 3. There were no close contacts.

 

  • One City Hall employee started experiencing symptoms on July 28 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on July 30. There were no close contacts.

 

  • One BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on July 30 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on August 3. There were no close contacts.

 

  • A second BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on August 4 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

  • One BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on July 25 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on July 28. Close contacts have been notified.

 

  • A second BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on August 4 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. Close contacts have been notified.

 

To date, 394 positive COVID-19 viral test results have been reported since the start of the pandemic by City workers, including those employed by the municipal corporations that operate the water utility (CBU), transit system (Bloomington Transit), and public housing (Bloomington Housing Authority). Additionally, COVID-19 was listed among the causes of death of one City worker.

Wastewater Sampling Program

City of Bloomington Utilities continues its weekly COVID-19 wastewater sampling program. While it is presently in the early stages of development, wastewater sampling has been proposed as a future “early warning” methodology. As of July 25, the most recent date for which data is available, sample concentrations were 3900 gene copies/100mL at the Dillman plant and 160 gene copies/100mL at the Blucher Poole plant. COVID-19 Press Update

Community leaders will offer a press call on Friday, August 5, at 1 p.m. to share the most recent developments in the coordinated local effort to mitigate and manage COVID-19 and present an opportunity for media representatives to ask questions.

Carroll.
