City Reports Thirty-eight New COVID-19 Cases

Bloomington, Ind.–Thirty-eight City workers have reported positive results of COVID-19 laboratory tests since the January 13 update, including three Parks & Recreation (Parks) employees, four Bloomington Police Department (BPD) employees, five Utilities (CBU) employees, four City Hall employees, nine Bloomington Fire Department (BFD) employees, one Bloomington Transit (BT) employee, six Department of Public Works (DPW) employees, and six employees of the Bloomington Housing Authority (BHA). 

 

Two of the cases were linked to previous COVID-19 cases at the City, but no members of the general public were identified as close contacts as a result of exposure to these employees in the course of their work.  

 

“Close contact” is defined by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset--or, for asymptomatic clients, two days prior to positive specimen collection--until the time the patient is isolated. 

 

Details of each case are as follows: 

 

A Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on January 8 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 11. There were no close contacts. 

 

A second Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on January 17 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 19. There were no close contacts. 

 

A third Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 33. There are no close contacts, and this individual was identified as a close contact of another City employee who was positive for COVID-19.

 

A BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 19, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

A second BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 13, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 14. There were no close contacts.

 

A third BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 14, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

A fourth BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 18, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 19. There were no close contacts.

 

A CBU employee started experiencing symptoms on January 11, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 13. There were no close contacts.

 

A second CBU employee started experiencing symptoms on January 7, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 10. Close contacts have been notified.

 

A third CBU employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 13. There were no close contacts, and this individual was identified as a close contact of another City employee who was positive for COVID-19.

 

A fourth CBU employee started experiencing symptoms on January 16, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts. 

 

A fifth CBU employee, who was asymptomatic, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 17. There were no close contacts. 

 

A City Hall employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12, receiving a positive COVID-19 test result on January 13. There were no close contacts. 

 

A second City Hall employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12, receiving a positive COVID-19 test result on January 18. There were no close contacts. 

 

A third City Hall employee, who was asymptomatic, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 18 from a test to comply with the City’s testing policy for employees who have not submitted proof of vaccination against COVID-19. There were no close contacts. 

 

A fourth City Hall employee started experiencing symptoms on January 11, receiving a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts. 

 

A BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 6, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 14. There were no close contacts.

 

A second BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 14, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

A third BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 11, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 13. There were no close contacts.

 

A fourth BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 15, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

A fifth BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 13, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 17. There were no close contacts.

 

A sixth BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 16, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 18. There were no close contacts.

 

A seventh BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 18, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

An eighth BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 19, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

A ninth BFD employee started experiencing symptoms on January 19, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 20. There were no close contacts.

 

A BT employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12, and received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 13. There were no close contacts.

 

A DPW employee started experiencing symptoms on January 12, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 14. There were no close contacts. 

 

A second DPW employee, who was asymptomatic, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 15 from a test to comply with the City’s testing policy for employees who have not submitted proof of vaccination against COVID-19. There were no close contacts. 

 

A third DPW employee started experiencing symptoms on January 16, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 17. There were no close contacts. 

 

A fourth DPW employee started experiencing symptoms on January 16, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 19. There were no close contacts.

 

A fifth DPW employee started experiencing symptoms on January 10, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 11. There were no close contacts.

 

A sixth DPW employee started experiencing symptoms on January 16, received a positive COVID-19 test result on January 17. There were no close contacts. 

 

Six BHA employees received a positive COVID-19 test result since the January 13 update. Further details of each case are unknown at time of this release.  

 

Including today’s report, 232 positive COVID-19 viral test results have been reported since the start of the pandemic by City workers, including those employed by the municipal corporations that operate the water utility (CBU), transit system (Bloomington Transit), and public housing (Bloomington Housing Authority). Additionally, COVID-19 was listed among the causes of death of one City worker.
