Engineering

The Engineering Department contains the Capital Project Services Division and the Right-of-Way Management Services Division. These divisions are responsible for overseeing activities in the City’s approximately 1,800 acres of public right of way and for carrying out the City’s vision to achieve a safe, efficient, equitable, and sustainable transportation system that works for people of all ages and abilities using all modes of transportation. Staff members work to improve the City's multimodal transportation network, manage construction within and use of the public right of way, and provide technical assistance to numerous internal and external groups.

Review progress updates on the Hopewell Neighborhood as Bloomington moves toward greater diversity, sustainability, and affordability for residents. 

Over the next couple of years, mStreet Fiber (formerly Hoosier Fiber Network, or HFN) will be within Bloomington building a new fiber optic network. Before they begin work in a certain area, they must determine the location of underground utilities. Construction areas will be marked with flags and paint that should remain through the duration of construction. Property owners are encouraged to mark any private underground facilities such as sprinkler systems, dog fences, private gas lines, etc. For any additional information for the internet service provider, you can contact GigabitNow at their website.

As a property owner, are you currently trying to investigate damage to your private utilities? If you suspect that work conducted within the public right-of-way has inadvertently damaged your private utilities (i.e., a fiber cable striking a sewer lateral), you are encouraged to contact the Engineering Department for assistance.
