Laborer II Part Time Switchyard Park

Description

Performs day to day maintenance of grounds, event setup for Pavilion and Park including watering, landscaping, trash removal, restroom cleaning and other duties as assigned by the Working Foreperson. This includes specific tasks such as:

  • Conduct routine park inspections; identify, address, or document issues related to cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of the park.
  • Complete minor maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Set up and tear down indoor and outdoor events, including fencing, tables, chairs, audiovisual components, etc.
  • Open, secure, and lock facilities and event spaces as required.
  • Carry out custodial duties, including waste removal, restroom sanitation, and general cleaning.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining safety protocols.
  • Serve as an informational resource and positive representative of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Maintain accurate reports and documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience that
provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience

Some maintenance experience in any of these areas is preferred but not required: grounds maintenance, maintenance equipment (I.e. tractors and mowers), painting, construction, facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or plumbing preferred but not required. Painting experience is preferred, but not necessary. Experience working outdoors and working independently is required.

Ideal Candidate Qualities

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working out of doors, has at least some light maintenance experience, and is comfortable with trash removal. The successful candidate is reliable, professional, and accountable, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently. The position often functions as the sole Parks and Recreation representative on site, requiring independence, confidence in decision- making, and the ability to represent the department professionally.

Requirements

Applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Indiana Driver’s License to operate a city vehicle.

Hours

Flexible schedule. Some weekends. Work week will average 22-28 hours. Shifts are generally 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional shifts may be available on weekends.

Salary

$16.86 to $17.06 per hour
