City of Bloomington Utilities to Continue West Second Street Modernization and Safety Improvements
The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) is continuing infrastructure upgrades as part of the City’s broader West Second Street Modernization and Safety Improvements Project. This work includes essential water infrastructure relocations and service connections along West Second Street to support future roadway improvements and strengthen long-term utility reliability.
The utility work will occur in multiple phases, with some activities scheduled overnight to minimize disruption for nearby residents, businesses, and medical offices.
Phase 1—Beginning Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m., CBU will close West Second Street from South Walker Street to South Rogers Street to perform a water main relocation and service line connections. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, March 20, at 8 a.m.
Phase 2—Beginning Thursday, March 26, at 8 p.m., CBU will close West Second Street from the intersection of South Walker Street to South Rogers Street to perform further water main and service line connections. This phase is anticipated to continue through Friday, March 27, at 8 a.m. Crews will return on Saturday, March 28, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. to complete the remainder of the work for this phase with the same traffic restriction in place.
Phase 3—Beginning Wednesday, April 1, at 5 a.m., CBU will again close West Second Street from South Walker Street to South Euclid Avenue, as well as South Walker Street from the intersection of West Second Street to West First Street, to complete a water main relocation and additional service connections. Work is expected to be completed by 6 p.m.
CBU staff will coordinate with local traffic to maintain access to businesses and driveways throughout each phase whenever possible. Minor service disruptions are expected during this work, but no Boil Water Advisories are anticipated.
As with all construction projects, this schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions, field conditions, and the results of water line testing. These improvements are necessary to support the upcoming roadway modernization project and ensure reliable water service for the community.
