Banneker Camp Staff Assistant

Position Description:

  • Provides setup, pre-planning, preparation and support for Banneker Summer Camp 2026.
  • Plans for and implements daily programming for camp, including educational, sports, cultural, fitness, health and wellness, and social activities.
  • Works closely with Facility/Program Coordinator and Program Specialist to create a positive camp experience.

Education:

College education in the recreation field with emphasis on youth, recreation, or education or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Training/Special Skills:

  • Ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • Must be mature and have good judgment.
  • Must have strong planning skills and the ability to implement a variety of recreational activities.
  • Ability to work independently, supervise employees, and take direction.
  • Applicant should be creative, enthusiastic, and able to work with a variety of people and children.

Experience

Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and work well with others. Knowledge of program administration and program planning for children in a summer camp like setting is recommended.

License/Certification

Valid Indiana driver's license, CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain.

Hours

Ability to work from 2–6 p.m., Monday through Friday as needed until camp begins. Camp hours could range between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Maximum 29 hours per week. Other hours may be needed as warranted for special events.

Season

Position begins March 30, 2026 and ends July 31, 2026.

Salary

$18.40 per hour
