City of Bloomington to Honor Outstanding Volunteers at the 2025 Be More Awards Ceremony

The City of Bloomington will celebrate volunteers at the 2025 Be More Awards on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Presented by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, these awards honor individuals and groups who have made a lasting, positive impact on the Bloomington and Monroe County community.

This is a free, unticketed event open to all. Awards will be presented in the following eight categories:

  • Be More Bloomington Award: Presented to an individual or group demonstrating excellence in addressing the issues of 2024, such as housing/homelessness, immigration, and food insecurity issues.
  • Be More Creative Award: Honors volunteer work within the arts community.
  • Be More Dedicated Award: Presented to an individual or couple over the age of 60 for their lifetime of service.
  • Be More Energized Award: Honors an individual or group under the age of 25.
  • Be More Engaged Award: Honors an individual or a group employed at a business or organization who engages in volunteer activities and programs on behalf of their employer.
  • Be More Impactful Award: Honors the volunteer or volunteer group of the year.
  • Be More Involved Award: Presented to an individual who has volunteered for at least three non-profit organizations for a year or longer. The recipient will select which of the non-profit organizations they serve will receive the cash award.
  • Be More Phenomenal Award: Presented for outstanding leadership through board, commission, or committee involvement.

Thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, each honoree will receive $1,000 for their chosen nonprofit.

The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network is proud to serve as a certifying organization for the Presidential Service Awards, established in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. This national honor recognizes individuals for their exceptional service and dedication to their communities.  The first recipient of this prestigious award will be presented during this year’s Be More Award Celebration.

The Be More Awards are made possible in partnership with the City of Bloomington, the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, IU Credit Union, United Way of South Central Indiana, and WTIU Public Television.
