City of Bloomington Announces 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration

The City of Bloomington will host the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration on Monday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. This event is free, with general admission seating.

This year’s theme is “A Necessary Renaissance in Social Justice: Telling the Stories to Ignite Change,” featuring keynote speaker Keith A. Beauchamp.

Keith A. Beauchamp, is an acclaimed investigative journalist, documentarian, activist, and filmmaker. Beauchamp’s groundbreaking investigative reporting and his 2005 documentary were instrumental in prompting the State of Mississippi to reopen the murder case of Emmett Till. His long-term collaboration with Emmett’s mother culminated in the powerful feature film TILL, which has received numerous nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Critics’ Choice Awards and is currently streaming on major platforms.

The Birthday Celebration will also feature inspirational messages from local government and community leaders, musical performances, the Legacy Award presentation, and more.
