City Reports Ten New COVID-19 Employee Cases

Bloomington, Ind. – Ten City workers have reported positive results of COVID-19 tests since the June 9 update, including one Bloomington Transit (BT) employee, five Parks and Recreation (Parks) employees, one City Hall employee, and three Bloomington Police Department (BPD) employees.

 

Details of the cases are as follows: 

 

  • One BT employee started experiencing symptoms on June 11 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 12. There were no close contacts. 

 

  • One Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on June 13 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. Close contacts include members of the public, and they have been notified. 

 

  • A second Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on June 12 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 15. There were no close contacts. 

 

  • A third Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on June 11 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 15. Close contacts have been notified. 

 

  • A fourth Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on June 14 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 15. Close contacts have been notified.

 

  • A fifth Parks employee started experiencing symptoms on June 14 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 16. Close contacts are being notified.

 

  • One City Hall employee started experiencing symptoms on June 13 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. There were no close contacts.

 

  • One BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on June 8 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 11. Close contacts have been notified.

 

  • A second BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on June 10 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on June 12. Close contacts have been notified.

 

  • A third BPD employee started experiencing symptoms on June 13 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on the same day. Close contacts have been notified.

 

To date, 344 positive COVID-19 viral test results have been reported since the start of the pandemic by City workers, including those employed by the municipal corporations that operate the water utility (CBU), transit system (Bloomington Transit), and public housing (Bloomington Housing Authority). Additionally, COVID-19 was listed among the causes of death of one City worker.

City of Bloomington Utilities continues its weekly COVID-19 wastewater sampling program. While it is presently in the early stages of development, wastewater sampling has been proposed as a future “early warning” methodology. As of June 13, the most recent date for which data is available, sample concentrations were 640 gene copies/100mL at the Dillman plant and 220 gene copies/100mL at the Blucher Poole plant.
