Media Advisory: Transportation Demand Management Plan Report to Council

WHAT: A draft Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Implementation Plan for the City of Bloomington will be presented to the Bloomington Common Council for review.  A TDM plan maximizes a community’s transportation resources and options in order to increase transportation efficiency while promoting economic development, stewarding natural resources, and enhancing quality of life.

WHO: The presentation will be made by Wells + Associates, transportation consultants who have been working with City staff and community stakeholders since June 2019 to evaluate transportation patterns and resources to design the TDM plan.  The plan incorporates input sourced through a residential travel survey, a downtown employee transportation survey, and a series of stakeholder meetings.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 4, 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Council Chambers at City Hall (401 North Morton Street)

WHY: Transportation Demand Management evaluates and promotes transportation options to improve outcomes for commuters, businesses, and communities.  A TDM plan formulates recommendations for parking resources and other infrastructure, and incentivizes the use of public transportation, walking and cycling, ridesharing, and telecommuting.  The City has pursued the development of a TDM plan as part of its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing economic vitality, and improving quality of life for all residents.  More information about the City’s TDM plan is available here.

WHAT’S NEXT: The plan’s recommendations will serve to inform decision making and budget allocations across City departments.  The TDM plan will be posted here after the presentation.
