City of Bloomington Utilities Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Southwest Bloomington

Bloomington, Ind. – City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) has repaired water main damage on South Old State Road 37. Many customers of CBU and Southern Monroe Water Authority were temporarily disconnected from water service on Tuesday afternoon while crews repaired the break. Those customers are now under a precautionary Boil Water Advisory. Unless otherwise notified, the precautionary Boil Water Advisory will be lifted at noon on Wednesday, September 18. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) requires all public water systems to issue a Boil Water Advisory when the pressure drops below 20 psi in the water main.

Those affected should follow the instructions below:

  • Immediately after your normal water pressure is restored, run COLD water from a sink or tub until clear water flows from the faucet.

  • Boil drinking water for at least 5 minutes prior to consumption.

  • It is recommended that all water used for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene be brought to a full boil for FIVE minutes. It is not necessary to boil water for other uses.

Please see the attached map for a general area under boil water advisory and the City of Bloomington Utilities website at bloomington.in.gov/utilities for a list of specific addresses. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the City of Bloomington Utilities at 812-339-1444.
