Public Education is another responsibility that includes all members of the fire department. The Fire Prevention Bureau coordinates and schedules most public education programs within Bloomington. Firefighters and engine companies participate in and present many of the programs throughout the community.

Specific programs offered by the fire department include:

  • Pre-school fire prevention programs scheduled through many local daycare providers
  • Fire station tours scheduled by local organizations including most youth-oriented United Way agencies
  • Fire Prevention Officers attend second-grade classes at the Monroe County Community School Corporation and present "Be Cool About Fire Safety" (sponsored by Allstate Insurance)
  • National Fire Prevention Week includes a Mayoral Proclamation and Fire Department visits many community organizations and establishments.
  • "Fire in the Workplace" is a popular program for adults.
  • Portable fire extinguisher training is provided to businesses and local organizations.
