Drainage or Runoff

Case Date:
1/28/2024

Hello, I live at 404 E 1st Street and walk to work at the university. Since it has been raining steadily for days, the leaves have moved into the street gutters and are blocking/clogging the gutters and grated drains all throughout this neighborhood. With the new 2023 leaf recycling law, most of the neighborhood did not rake and remove the leaves (my neighbor at 402 has the front yard filled with leaves, a rental unit) and the recent windy weather has blown the leaves everywhere and now the rain has moved them into the areas that I mentioned. This problem is causing excessive water to gather on my property. Please send out crews this week to clean up the leaf problem before there is a major flood in this neighborhood because the forecast is for another 10 days of rain. Thank you, ELIDA C. Before you even begin, yes, I am aware of the area indicated is not part of your responsibility, but everything that is causing the issue is coming from City side. If I may, I’m very grateful that the city sand, salt, plow trucks pass this way each snowy icy day. But now the sand is making its own Sand-Bar. Which in turn, causes water to run across the road and wash out the opposite side. ( not a good thing for those of us that live on the opposite side) If I may request the street sweeper to pass aggressively directly in line with the building that is opposite to the address of 1604 Weimer Rd. that would be amazing. And since I’m pushing the envelope, could the driver of said sweeper, just continue to connect the last 100-yards onto Sudbury Dr. and score those brownie points with your neighbors. As always, please and thank you. Randy Craw

Utility Construction Projects

Case Date:
3/5/2024

On Grandview Ave, across the street from 3411, there is a hole on the side of the road that was discovered after utility work happened in the neighborhood. The hole is loose and getting larger. It seems it is related to some utility that may be buried beside the road, and it is VERY close to a marked gas line. There is another sinking spot on the corner of Kerry and Grandview, but it is low and muddy and not open like the other spot. I am worried about dogs or kids getting a foot stuck in it, or a gas leak. Thank you.

Blocked Sidewalk

Case Date:
2/25/2024

Part of the city-maintained Hunter footpath between Eastside Drive and Mitchell is submerged by an overflowing spring that has flowed under the footpath for more than 30 years of my personal experience. The pipe which carries the spring under the footpath is apparently silted up and needs to be reopened. At present, the foot path is impassable for pedestrians due to the amount of water on the path.

Biking & Walking

northbound bike lane on rogers between 8th st and b line (part of the detour). i found a CBU detour sign partially blocking this bike lane and i carried it down to their construction site at the b line. then i encountered this storm drain, which is at least 3 inches below grade, from poor milling practices when the road was resurfaced last year. these partial obstructions make the bike lane more technically demanding than it should be. not a fair substitute for the all-ages all-abilities b line.
