Sidewalk Requests

Rockport Rd

Case Date:
10/22/2026

I am a resident of the Bloomington Highlands subdivision, off Rockport Road between Fullerton Pike and Country Club Drive. I am requesting a sidewalk along Rockport Road, from S Wickens Street to W Country Club Drive. There is currently no sidewalk along Rockport Road at all, so anyone walking to Switchyard Park has to walk on the shoulder or the grass next to traffic. Our family would walk to the park regularly if there were a safe way to do it — instead we have to drive a very short distance. This stretch also carries the Gordon Pike detour traffic right now (Rockport Rd → Country Club Dr → Rogers St), which has made walking it feel even less safe. A sidewalk on this segment would give Highlands residents a safe walking route along Rockport to Country Club Drive, on the way toward Rogers Street and Switchyard Park and its trails. An earlier request (Jan 2024) already asked for sidewalks and a crosswalk at the Rogers/Rockport intersection and along Rogers to the park entrance. This request covers the missing Rockport Road segment west of that. Please consider it for the city's sidewalk plans. Thank you.

There is no connection between the sidewalks here. They could/should easily be connected so we aren't walking in the street (people go really fast around that turn) or in someone's yard.

There is no sidewalk in this area and I have been harassed by multiple business owners over walking through the grass in front of them specially in front of the corner toward the mall. I have to cross the street as I walk toward the mall and there is no crossing area that’s safe unless I cross early and it’s barely safer.

Discovery Pkwy & 10th St

Case Date:

I live at Fountain Park Apartments and am constantly witnessing dangerous crossings of pedestrians on E10th St and Pete Ellis Drive. There is no crosswalk at the intersection on either side of the outlined location. I think adding a crosswalk and pedestrian crossing light at the intersection would prevent a lot of these issues. Thank you for considering this request!

This stretch currently has no pedestrian walkway on the north side, forcing people to walk in the street or on uneven grass/gravel shoulders to reach the businesses at Edwards Square Plaza. While a sidewalk exists on the south side of East 3rd Street, high-speed traffic in both directions — eastbound and westbound — makes it unsafe and impractical for pedestrians to cross over to use it. As a result, anyone walking on the north side currently has no safe option at all. Adding this sidewalk would connect an existing gap in the pedestrian network, eliminate the need for a dangerous crossing, improve pedestrian safety, support foot traffic to local businesses, and bring this section in line with walkability standards elsewhere in the area. We appreciate your consideration of this request and are happy to provide any additional information needed.

Google Maps believes E 10th St is entirely walkable, but in fact there is a stretch from the intersection at N Smith until the sidewalk starts at Fountain Park Apartments without any sidewalk. It is not safe to walk, and it also means many directions given online are dangerous.

The sidewalk here ends abruptly, so people walk in the street. Would be nice to have a full sidewalk for families and the neighborhood.

3401 N Valleyview DR

Case Date:

There is a walking path between 3401 N. Valleyview Dr and 3361 N. Valleyview Dr that connects to BHSN. The path is very uneven and also overgrown with tree limbs and vegetation. Since students and community members walk this path frequently, it would be nice for it to be repaved to be more level and less hazardous to walk through especially at night. A light on the path would also be nice, but clearing the vegetation and leveling out the trip hazards would be appreciated.

Not only are there are no sidewalks in the area, which is used by many people using public transportation, but there is no bus shelter. Those in wheelchairs are forced to ride in the street as you can see from the provided photo. This is a major safety concern. Additionally, there is no shelter from the sun at the bus stop unless you stand up against a nearby building, which is an issue for those with mobility problems. Please evaluate this area.
