Sidewalk Requests:

Other: I am a resident of the Bloomington Highlands subdivision, off Rockport Road between Fullerton Pike and Country Club Drive. I am requesting a sidewalk along Rockport Road, from S Wickens Street to W Country Club Drive. There is currently no sidewalk along Rockport Road at all, so anyone walking to Switchyard Park has to walk on the shoulder or the grass next to traffic. Our family would walk to the park regularly if there were a safe way to do it — instead we have to drive a very short distance. This stretch also carries the Gordon Pike detour traffic right now (Rockport Rd → Country Club Dr → Rogers St), which has made walking it feel even less safe. A sidewalk on this segment would give Highlands residents a safe walking route along Rockport to Country Club Drive, on the way toward Rogers Street and Switchyard Park and its trails. An earlier request (Jan 2024) already asked for sidewalks and a crosswalk at the Rogers/Rockport intersection and along Rogers to the park entrance. This request covers the missing Rockport Road segment west of that. Please consider it for the city's sidewalk plans. Thank you.

Hi Lily, Thank you for submitting this request. The Planning Dept will consider this gap in prioritization of future projects. That being said, only the first 300ft of Rockport south of Country Club appear to be within the City of Bloomington's jurisdiction. If you haven't reached out already, I believe the correct contact for the Monroe County portion here is Lisa Ridge. She is the Highway Director at the Monroe County Highway Department:[email protected]. As for the Rogers + Rockport intersection, this corridor is currently under study. The design on the project webpage (all the way at the bottom) illustrates some proposed alterations to improve this intersection. All the best, David Brantez Alternative Transportation Coordinator
