The Fire Merit Commission is established pursuant to Indiana State Code (I.C. 36-8-3.5-6) and commission members will be appointed by the Common Council, Mayor, and Fire Department. The commission establishes or administers policies based on merit for the appointment, promotion, demotion, and dismissal of fire department members. Each commissioner shall take an oath to "conscientiously discharge the commissioner's duties". A signed copy of the oath shall be filed with the Board of Public Safety.
This is a brand new commission that MUST be in place by March 1, 2025.
