There is are several crosswalks on Allen St. that are very hard to see at night. The lines could use reflective coating or blinking lights to help them be visible by car headlights at night.
The traffic light pole here takes up half the sidewalk, leaving very little room for pedestrians to get around. Probably impossible for someone with a mobility aid to pass (e.g. wheelchair, walker). Seems like a major ADA issue. Even as someone with fine mobility, I barely had room to get by while staying on the sidewalk.
Turning right from 17th St onto Madison St is a nightmare. You're either going to hit the car that's in the lefthand turn lane on Madison St, or you're running over the decently large curb. The only cars that can safely navigate this are small cars. If you're a truck, SUV, or, God forbid, a city bus, you're in trouble. Cars don't turn at 90 degree angles. The radius of that curb is entirely too small.
Good Morning, There are two Downtown Bloomington signs located on the north and south end of the sidewalk between College Avenue and the Justice Building at 301 North College. Unfortunately, they have lost their luster, the anchoring points are looking suspect and they are impeding the maintenance teams ability to remove snow. I believe these signs are located in the COB right-of-way and assume that there is a formal process to request relocation elsewhere. Preferably down the street in either direction. The islands of trees surrounded by curbs that are being constructed in the roadways throughout the city. I’m wondering why the city is installing them since they’re already responsible for the death of a deputy sheriff who died from her injuries sustained during a traffic accident in which she was responding with lights and sirens to a call got hit going threw a red light and the ambulance was called but unable to get there for an extended period of time due to the trees and curbs constructed in the roadways throughout the city leaving no room for the ambulance to navigate around pulled over vehicles. I thought that when the city removed the brand new islands that they had constructed that they would find a better speed diversion, or would at least limit the construction of new islands but instead we now have many islands that make it nearly impossible to turn onto certain roads and streets due to the lack of room because of the brick filled curbed islands and trees. It seems ridiculous to me that the people are paying for obstacles in the roadway that make it nearly impossible to drive on the streets in Bloomington. They are wonderful for bicycling and walking however seeing as the city of Bloomington does not enforce no riding bikes on the sidewalks I don’t see much importance in having bicycle lanes in the roads since people on bicycles are allowed to ride their bikes on the sidewalks, which is extremely dangerous in my opinion but I’ve witnessed hundreds of bicyclist on the sidewalks in the downtown district and on Kirkwood, where there are police station within feet of them riding their bikes on the sidewalk and no attempt to stop them has been made.
