Sidewalk & Curb Complaints:

Other: Turning right from 17th St onto Madison St is a nightmare. You're either going to hit the car that's in the lefthand turn lane on Madison St, or you're running over the decently large curb. The only cars that can safely navigate this are small cars. If you're a truck, SUV, or, God forbid, a city bus, you're in trouble. Cars don't turn at 90 degree angles. The radius of that curb is entirely too small.

Thank you for submitting this uReport and sharing your concern about the right turn from W 17th Street onto N Madison Street. Staff reviewed this location and completed a turning path analysis for larger vehicles, including a passenger vehicle with a trailer. The analysis shows that typical passenger vehicles and SUVs are able to complete the turn at low speeds without needing to drive over the curb. This intersection is also not on a Bloomington Transit bus route, so it is not intended to regularly accommodate bus traffic. In addition, we reviewed the crash history at this location and did not find any crashes related to this turning movement in the past five years. Based on the turning analysis and crash data, we are not proposing immediate changes at this time, but we will continue to monitor this area and keep it in mind for any future design or maintenance work. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
