Street & Traffic Signs

brown st

Case Date:
4/22/2025

There are no signs on Coolidge or Brown streets by the Broadview Learning Center and Bloomington Graduation School building indicating it is a school or reducing speed limits. BGS is an alternative high school in MCCSC, but the students are entitled to the same protections as any traditional high school. Please remedy this inequity.

Street Trees

2231 S Sweetbriar CT

Case Date:
4/23/2025

Tree immediately in front of home on the street side of the sidewalk is in poor health. Most outer branches are not budding. Branches regularly break off during storms and I have concern that this tree as well as neighboring tree may fall at next significant wind storm. A previous report last year about this tree was marked as 'resolved' with a comment that it would be put on a list. However, I have no indication that this was ever followed up on.

Drainage or Runoff

1212 S High ST

Case Date:
4/23/2025

Location: 1212 S High St (High & Covenanter) Notes: The stormwater conveyance is public, and the wall is in the ROW. Homeowner came to CBU with the following complaint & request: The stone retaining wall next to the ditchline is deteriorating; this is the 2nd failure in the wall due to drainage problems.  Homeowner states that the ditch is in poor condition, not flowing properly, and full of "mud piles", etc which is causing erosion below the wall. He is requesting a call to schedule a time to meet onsite to show staff what is happening and determine what can be done about it. If he is not available by phone, he requests that we knock on the door upon arrival so they are aware of our visit and will walk the site with us. Contact Info: (H) 812-339-9132 / (C) 812-322-9245 / (Wife's Cell) 812-345-3046. I notified him that most of our staff is currently out of the office, but someone should be able to meet with him on Friday. (He agreed to this potential timeframe.)

Excessive Growth

817 N Washington ST

Case Date:
4/23/2025

"Tree-Keeper" database reports 56 Ailanthus altissima ("tree of heaven") trees being maintained by the City. Given this is an invasive plant and is known to be the primary food source for Lycorma delicatula (spotted lanternfly), should the City be obliged to remove these trees that are listed on the State list: ("Prohibited Invasive Terrestrial Plants [312 IAC 18-3-25]", https://ag.purdue.edu/department/entm/iisc/invasive-plants.html) ? If HAND is going to proactively threaten residents by "asking" them to remove something that is not on the State list (e.g., bamboo), it seems profoundly hypocritical for them to not address a serious ecological issue that they are helping to advance.

Street Trees

2718 E Bluff CT

Case Date:
4/23/2025

Our property has a large locust tree that has lost several large branches in what we believe is the city right of way. One branch blocked the roadway until we were able to clear with our equipment. It has several additional large dead branches and the entire tree has a significant lean to the street and neighboring properties. It’s located just before our driveway which is actually on Pine Lane. Thank you.

Drainage or Runoff

1208 W E Branch Rd

Case Date:
4/10/2025

The drainage ditch behind our property and to the east was never properly engineered to handle all the water from rains and multiple neighborhoods. It overflows and leaves properties too wet to mow for weeks as well as the trees standing in the water are dying and falling which is a dangerous situation for the neighborhood. This standing water is a health and safety hazard as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. And it can not be mowed properly .The neighborhood applied for a grant last year but it was denied. It has been dug out a few years ago by the city but without proper method used to apply rock to maintain the ditch open the problem just re occurs with it growing over and does not stay open to handle the water and it floods again .
