Upon investigation on 10/09/2026, there is only one temporary sign of a compliant size displayed at each property. The signage at the properties appears to be in compliance with the City Sign code as outlined in Title 20 of Bloomington Municipal Code--more specifically in Section 20.04.100 [Signs]. Planning staff outlined the relevant City signage standards with the complainant via email communication.

Planning staff will investigate, but please note that per state code, for 60 days before an election and 5 days after the election, there is no limit to the number of signs that can be displayed on private property, and all signs can be up to 32 square feet. Outside of election season, every property is allowed to display 3 small temporary signs without requiring a permit: 2 signs of up to 5 square feet in area and 1 sign of up to 8 square feet in area. There is no defined time limit for how long those temporary signs can be displayed at a property. By definition of the temporary materials and installation method, the signs should have an inherent timeline in which they will degrade and need to be removed.
