Water Quality:

Other: I am writing to inquire about a possible water quality issue at my residence in Bloomington. Over the weekend, I noticed that our tap water appeared different from usual. It has been somewhat cloudy and has a noticeable yellowish or greenish tint. The discoloration is more noticeable in person than it appears in the attached photos. Since we have a child at home, I am concerned about whether the water is safe to use for everyday purposes such as bathing, brushing teeth, and using a humidifier. Could you please let me know if there are any known water quality issues in our area? If possible, I would also appreciate it if someone could visit our residence to inspect or test the water and confirm whether it is safe to use. Thank you for your assistance.

The discoloration is related to seasonal conditions in Monroe Reservoir and naturally occurring manganese in the source water. Customers seeing discoloration should run cold water for several minutes and replace household filters more frequently if needed. The water is safe for use and your address has been added to our list for flushing. Please visit the city press release for more information at https://bloomington.in.gov/news/2026/09/08/6643 or email [email protected] with questions.
