Other: I’m wondering when the city is going to smooth something about the illegal camping inside, outside, and all around RCA park and in the woods north of Cherokee Dr. There is a continuous line of homeless, all day and night, with luggage, carts, and camping gear going back through the neighborhoods. They scream, fight, harass, and throw garbage everywhere and the mayor let them camp here so they still think it’s ok even though it is clearly illegal. They’ve also been burning garage and plastic the past 4 nights, which wait for it, is also illegal. Seriously, the mayor ran on addressing this problem and letting them destroy a different neighborhood is not a solution. We have little to no police presence over here and these people have been breaking multiple laws including trespassing as well. What are you guys doing about any of this?

Thank you for your message. We share your frustration and concern. This encampment is on property owned by the County, even though it is inside City limits, and as such the Mayor does not have jurisdiction over it. The City would have closed this camp long ago, if we had the authority. It has unfortunately become large and escalated, and we share your concerns and have been expressing them to the County for months. The County did post a 30-day notice, so it will close by September 1. In the meantime, County and City public safety officers continue to collaborate on calls to the area.
