Biking & Walking:

Other: This is a repeat of ureport #204475... Regarding the bridge over the train tracks where Rogers becomes Madison, between 11th and 13th street. The bike lane was painted again today, and again it was painted incorrectly. The technicians have not been following the engineered design, and as a result the merge zone has gone missing. This is important to let cyclists and drivers both know that the bike lane ends. It's also important to provide a suggestion for where the merge should occur -- it is much safer to merge at low speed and high visibility at the top of the hill than at high speed and low visibility just past the crest. Thanks!

Responded to resident and explained that staff will review the bike lane transition and compare the current markings with the intended design.

Thanks for following up and explaining the concern. I understand your point about providing a clearer transition before the bike lane ends, particularly where cyclists may be traveling more slowly and are more visible to approaching drivers. We’ll take another look at the markings and the intended design to determine whether the current transition is appropriate or whether the merge area should be adjusted.
