uReport

City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #211748

Traffic Related Complaints:

Other: What can the City do with people that used the turn lane on Bloomfield Rd as their owns special lane to go as fast as the can from Cory ln to the Stoplight for the TLRC. they will get in the middle turn lane and floor it. They also treat Allen st as their own race track with hills. Maybe stop sings at Tall oaks, Cory Ln.,and Beech tree. Pretty much blind intersections get on to Allen St

Hello Jeff, Thank you for sharing this with us. I understand your concern, especially with drivers using the center turn lane on Bloomfield Rd like a passing lane and the speeding concerns on Allen St near locations with limited visibility. We will evaluate both stretches of road you pointed out. Bloomfield Rd is a higher-priority safety corridor for us, so we will take a closer look at what may be appropriate there, including whether there are ways to address how the center turn lane is being used. For Allen St, stop signs are generally not used as a speed control tool, since they are intended to assign right-of-way and often do not solve speeding issues when there is not enough cross traffic. Traffic calming would likely be the better long-term tool for that concern. Traffic calming applications are closed for this year, but you can apply during the next application cycle. Based on what you described, Allen St may be a good candidate. If you would like to be notified when applications open next year, you can reach out to [email protected]. There is also a future project planned near Allen St at Bloomfield Rd and Adams St to improve those intersections, so we can keep this concern in mind as that work moves forward. In the near term, you may also consider requesting police enforcement for the speeding and unsafe driving behavior. I’ll close this uReport for now, but feel free to email me directly at [email protected] if you would like to continue the conversation or receive updates. Thanks again, John
