Street & Traffic Signs:

Other: There was an accident on our corner (9th & Walnut) this weekend. I didn’t see it, but heard it and saw the immediate aftermath. Looking at the positions of the cars, I guessed that the car that was hit had been crossing Walnut via 9th and was t-boned. When I looked at the stop signs on 9th Street, I realized that there is no indication for the driver that this is NOT a 4-way stop. These big crosswalks could easily make people think that it’s a 4-way. These 9th Street stop signs need “cross traffic does not stop” signs added to them so that drivers new to Bloomington can be safer.

Thank you for the report. The Planning Dept is currently conducting a study on the College and Walnut corridors, which may result in changes to existing intersections. The manual for uniform traffic control devices provides the standard that all-way stops shall have an "All-Way" plaque, with the intention to indicate to users of the road that cross traffic does not stop at intersections without those plaques. Upon investigating the mentioned crash, it does not appear that this crash occurred due to the driver not being aware of the requirement to yield
