Other: The walking bridge on Second Street between Rose Ave and Anita was damaged by a fallen tree about a month ago and has been closed since then. To walk to work, I have to invade a neighbor's privacy by walking through her yard. I have noticed quite a few people (including an elderly one today) walking on the street, which is very tight traffic-wise. Does the city have plans to fix it? A second concern is one I've asked about several times over the years. Since I've heard about the plan to reconfigure the bike lanes on 3rd Street beginning on Rose, is it possible to put a crosswalk there (across 3rd on Rose). I have found this also to be a hazardous place to navigate on my walk to work in the IU School of Education on North Rose Ave. Many thanks for your attention to both questions! Hannah, Thank you for reaching out about creating safer pedestrian crossings in the city. This 3rd/Rose crosswalk is one with relatively heavy pedestrian traffic and is already a high priority location in terms of improving the infrastructure to make crossings safer and more visible. While there are longer-term infrastructure improvements I would like to make to this location, simple striping would most likely be a feasible short-term improvement. I will bring this to an internal meeting to discuss. Thank you for putting this back on our radar. Don't hesitate to reach out with any other transportation safety concerns! Best, Hank Duncan
Hank, I know Mike sent you this already, but I am sending the uReport over to you in case you need it.
Street is waiting on a quote from a contractor for repairs on the bridge. I will send this over to Hank for the bike lane requests.
Hi Cheyenne! I'm not sure if this is on Street's radar or not? I know the city did take over maintenance when constructed. I'm going to pass the part about 3rd/Rose over to Hank to address as well
