City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #199373

City Performance:

Other: The impact of the recent construction projects on traffic patterns is hard to bear. Could we get some information about why these projects are happening now instead of the summer?

As follow-up, the summer construction season is shorter and shorter each year with the MCCSC calendar starting school on 8/2 this year. We pack as much as we can into that shrinking time frame, but the projects that are taking place right now, had other constraints. For downtown pavement maintenance program, those dollars only became available as part of a one time allocation outside of our traditional in-house paving budget, and that could not overlap the Clear Creek Culvert project that was being rebuilt on Indiana to Dunn between Kirkwood and 6th. The West Third Street project was had 50/50 grant matching from INDOT and was done on the fastest timeline possible, without taking that project into next year.

Absolutely! I’ll work up a more comprehensive response by early next week, but it comes down to one time funding sources, both local and state, for contracted paving projects, being available this year that nearly triple our annual in house paving program.
