Line of Sight

Case Date:

Walker Street and West third. Every year same problem. If the city owns a tree lot behind the sidewalks, can you clear them back this homeowner doesn’t care about safety. Oscar.

Blocked Sidewalk

Case Date:
9/4/2023

Paved surface changes soon after walking west on the Moore’s Pike sidewalk in front of Cedarhurst. The path narrows and is almost impassable due to plant overgrowth. This continues down to the big intersection of Moore’s Pike and College Mall/Sare Road. The strips of land on either side of the walkway are overgrown and need mowing very badly. Who is responsible for that?

Street Lights

Case Date:
9/5/2023

STREET LIGHT OUT AT NW CORNER OF 1ST AND EAGLESON (FORMALLY JORDAN) - I've reported this to AES via the web and they said they don't serve Bloomington. This is not a request for a new street light, but a request to get an existing street light repaired. This is a busy intersection and it is very dark in the evening. This is a pressing public safety issue given the amount of pedestrian and car traffic in the area.

Homeless people of seminary park have stolen 4-5 shopping carts and have their crap in them. Please send police to deal with these people, issue tickets and return shopping carts to the local merchants. Thanks!

Traffic Signals

Case Date:
9/5/2023

Heading east or west on 2nd street/bloominfield rd. The intersection at Adams is really out of hand. East and west always has a red light which builds up traffic while adams north and south rarely has a single car pass. In fact this weekend there was traffic light induced traffic all the way backed up to the seminary square kroger. An abumlance was trying to pass and it could not pass. This needs to be fixed asap for public safety. In addition the light at patterson and 2nd heading east and west is always missed timed with the light at adams. When adams goes green heading east, patterson goes red. Please please help or at least respond via email and give a reason as to why these are so poorly timed.

Trails

Case Date:
9/6/2023

There is an overcup oak in the Goat Farm / Rogers Family Park which appears to have lobed oak galls attached all over. These contain larva of the oak gall wasp. I did not know if this is an environmental / safety concern for the park, but I wanted to bring it to your attention. The tree is one of the first planted, smaller trees, on the left side of the trail if you are walking from Sherwood Oaks Park. Thank you!

Parks & Playgrounds

Case Date:
9/6/2023

Previous report (185419) says the city returns “abandoned” shopping carts when found. The real issue is the homeless (seminary park) are using these shopping carts and nobody is confronting them about stealing these shopping carts from local merchants. Just today (9/6/23) I saw multiple “city workers” at seminary park while people there had shopping carts full of crap but nobody doing anything about the issue. These are not the property of these people just because they stole them. Merchants aren’t selling these shopping carts. These are obviously stolen and the people need held accountable and the shopping carts returned. Thanks!!!

Parking Permits

Case Date:
9/6/2023

East Amp Way folks in the new complex are using College Mall as a parking lot, instead of it being for customers of commerce. Is there a fix for this? People in residences should have parking onsite or not have a car before parking in a space intended for commercial use.

Academy Sports has asked the Bloomington Board of Zoning Appeals for an exception regarding the number of allowed parking spots. Based on the building’s square footage, local zoning laws would allow the company to have 178 parking spots, said Eric Greulich, senior zoning planner with the Bloomington Planning and Transportation Department. The city limits parking in part to reduce the amount of asphalt, which exacerbates storm water runoff and the heat island effect. Academy Sports said in filings with the city that it would like to use the existing 267 parking spaces, or about 44% more than allowed, because the limit imposed by the city would not allow the company “to properly serve all of its customers.” During peak hours and months — June, August, November and December — customers use between 85% and 100% of available parking and sometimes “park in the areas of the neighboring retailers,” the company said. ...
