I am quite concerned with the continued lack of on duty lifeguards at the Bryan Park Pool during swimming lessons. Three days ago (6/7/21), I almost ended up jumping into the water myself to save my actively drowning 3 year old because her instructor had taken a child to the bathroom leaving another instructor to watch both his and her classes, unsuccessfully. In my incident report, I stated that there needs to be a lifeguard on duty other than the instructors because they cannot reasonably be expected to see everything around them and it's not the parents job either. Mind you, I have many years of being both a lifeguard, aquatics director, swimming instructor, and outdoor educator under my belt when I say this. It's not just my opinion.
I was told in a follow-up meeting the next day with the aquatics director, Shanda(?), that there would be a lifeguard on deck or in the chair from now on. This, unfortunately was not the case, yet again, at tonight's lesson. I have attached a picture (I hope) showing that there are no lifeguards in the stand or on deck anywhere near the active lessons. If the argument is that the instructors are also watching the kids, please refer to Indiana Health Code 410 IAC 62.135 Lifeguards (g).
I am filing this complaint through the city not to be a pain, as I've dealt with my share of those over the years, but because I genuinely believe this is an unsafe situation based on experience. Furthermore, it clearly doesn't seem to be resonating at the facility level.

The condition under the bridge at grimes and Morton is progressively getting worse. Tons of trash, illegal camping/living, and unsafe conditions. Please take care of this before it gets to the point of seminary park! If nothing is done it will progressively get worse and somebody will get hurt!

Hello. Today is the first day in 16 years that I am unable to walk my dog around the complex of Mills Pool and Park and Tri-North due to the impending closure and demolition of the old Tri North building. Fortunately, we still have the amazing Mills Pool and Park to walk my dog which I am so grateful for. It is my favorite park in Bloomington and my request is for some additional upkeep to the Mills Pool and Park due to these changes. There is a sidewalk that runs along the north (back) side of the pool that connects the east and west sides of the pool. This is also a flood plane and often floods with sediment and other natural materials when it rains. It gets tall weeds during the summer and is often a challenge to walk through due to all of these factors. I am asking that this sidewalk receive increased Parks and Rec attention to keep it an accessible walkway for the residents of our community. I am also asking that a dog waste receptacle with bags be placed in the Mills Pool and Park for the residents of our community to use to keep the park free of animal waste. Thank you for considering my requests!
Gratefully!

There needs to be a street sign at Winslow and Henderson streets. There are so many more missing street signs than I can mention here. I have lived here since 1986 and I get confused. I can’t imagine what it is like for newcomers. Can’t city employees that drive around town such as police, garbage collectors etc. report these missing street signs as they are driving around town Or someone in the street department make it their job to check every street in town for missing street signs.
