I own the property located at 1005 N. Jackson St, 47404. Shortly after purchasing the property the house next door burned down. We felt very fortunate that our house was not damaged. The house was demolished, however, shortly after demolishing the house someone has set up a tent on the lot and multiple people have been seen using the tent. There is trash surrounding the tent. Though we have not seen a fire there is what appears to be a makeshift fire pit. We use this property as a short term rental and it has the proper permits. I am personally concerned about the safety of my wife who spends some of her days working on improvements within the property. Obviously concerned about the impact on our ability to rent the home with the above described situation. I'm not sure what can be done but after reviewing the code it does not seem like this fits the intended use of the property. I am also empathetic to the rise of homelessness in our community, but this is a residential neighborhood and for the safety of all community members something should be done. We dodged a serious issue when the house burnt down and worry we may not be so lucky if something happens again. Thanks for your attention to this matter, please reach out with any questions. Mays Greenhouse blatantly disregards safety requirements and puts its employees at risk. The manager smokes cigarettes indoors, forcing employees to inhale second-hand smoke just to complete business functions. The water they provide to their employees is unfiltered and burns, likely due to heavy amounts of fertilizers and pesticides used in the vicinity. Lastly, compost and waste are burned openly making the air around the perimeter toxic to breathe. Multiple employees, have had health problems related to exposure to the variety of hazards.

Mays Greenhouse has a leaking gas pipe in an area frequently visited by customers (greenhouse #8, which also serves as a sales area). Additionally, many of the pesticides are out of date and release toxic fumes; the labels say they are unstable after their expiration date yet they are still used. Employees have reported headaches and dizziness after use.

The porch on this house is MISSING! Meaning, there are no floor boards. Anyone stepping onto the porch at night in the dark (human or animal) will fall into an abyss. This building should be repaired or removed - it is dangerous.

1016 w Kirkwood is unsafe. It is for sale and has been abandoned for over a year. It has no locking door on the back but rather a broken single pane storm door held by a concrete brick. Inside there the house is dangerous to enter. There is standing water in the basement that has been there for over a year. It is growing mold and mosquitoes. The walls are down to the studs. There are holes in the floors and ceilings. We have have had to call the police due to intoxicated individuals entering at night. I am afraid someone will get hurt or die by falling into one of the holes or the standing water directly across from the back door.
