On June 29th, 2025, the creek to the east of the property flooded, causing 10 apartments to get flooded and multiple cars in the parking lot. We believe that upsizing the culvert downstream to allow more water to pass would solve the issue. Thanks!
Serious flash flooding in our neighborhood last night. At least 7 residential lots were affected on W Allen (6 north side of the street, 1 south side) directly west of the drainage creek that runs alongside Patterson. This has been an issue for several years, but is happening with increased frequency and severity. I've owned my house since 2012 and experienced 1 instance through 2019. Since then we've had floods covering much of my front yard at least twice a year. Last night was the 3rd instance this year and the worst I've seen. Water level reached my knees while on the sidewalk. Earlier this year, one neighbor's car was totaled due to flooding. Another had water rise up above floor level in their house a couple years ago. Previous attempts to clear brush, debris, and small blockages in the creek have had no impact. Rain garden bump outs were installed on Allen. They seem to have no impact as they run east up Allen whereas the source of flooding is the creek to the west. Utilities staff working on our block in the past have suggested culverts were too small to handle water flow. Reading the 2022 stormwater master plan, I wonder if installing a detention pond nearby might help. A whole patch of highly invasive Tree of Heaven saplings have sprouted along the B-Line trail just noth of Dodds.
Entire roof being removed in historic district - concerns it is not permitted work and concerns for spread of moldy / asbestos contaminated insulation being thrown
Homeless living behind unoccupied home with trash and fires. One person named Bob related to the property owner is allowed to camp there but in his absence others have taken up living behind home. Neighbors are now complaining. Mike Harper (812-360-5782) related to the absentee owner occasionally cuts the grass.
There appears to be a small homeless camp in the backyard behind the unoccupied house with a tent and two abandoned vehicles. The house itself has been vacant for many years and none of the people staying there seem to be entering the home. A relative of the people who own the house, a man named Bob, began staying in the backyard over a year ago, but he has since left and other people are now staying there in his absence. Recently, neighbors have found human feces and needles in their yard nearby, creating sanitary concerns, as well as heard a woman yelling in what sounded like distress at night. Outreach to the family of the property owner has not been successful so far, so I’m hoping someone could please look into this situation. Thank you!
This yard frequently has trash other debris in the yard, tall grass and low-hanging untrimmed tree limbs that are unsightly and maybe dangerous for neighbors and passersby. They also leave the trash cans lying in the yard or on the sidewalk all week long.
Cable hanging down on sidewalk near corner of W. 1st and WylieEuclid. Duke came and said not theirs prob phone or internet cable. Checked with one internet company (Comcast) and 14 day wait. The cable is on the sidewalk and a hazard in many ways. It seems to be possible related to the movement and placement of construction poles during demos and renovations to the East.
Yard around the building is unmaintained. There is high grass (over 1 ft tall) and weeds.
