Unsafe Buildings

236 N Morton ST

Case Date:
2/17/2022

On the second floor on the Morton Street parking garage there is a security camera hanging very low. I walked into it today and was badly injured by it. It is a very big hazard for anyone walking in the parking garage. This has caused me a significant amount of trauma and pain. I am certain others have experienced the same issue. Please get this fixed immediately. The negligence is unacceptable. My team of lawyers will be in contact.

Potholes, Other Street Repair

Case Date:
4/24/2022

On Friday April 15th, 2022 around 7:35am I was driving through the intersection of W Second Street and S Adams Street in which there was a city water access hole without the lid resulting in a popped/flat tire on my front passenger side. I was wondering if the city could reimburse me for my auto repair bill considering the cause of my flat was a city water access hole where no lid was present.

Shortly after driving on my street, where there is construction on traffic calming devices, I had a flat tire. There is a screw in it from where the construction crews have been working. We would like to know the process for getting reimbursement for repairs. We will have to replace the tire on a car we have had less than a month because of this. We also would ask that crews clean up the area and remove any hazards; there have been cones (and screws, apparently) in the way of traffic on South Weatherstone Lane. Thank you!

Sewer Problems (Sanitary Sewers)

2421 N Skyline DR

Case Date:
7/2/2024

I discovered that AEG had drilled through my sewer tile after calling plumbers several times to fix sewer blockages. On April 9, 2024, I contacted Eddie Helmondollar and his supervisor Dave Craig (cc:ed above) with pictures of the damage and a copy of the invoice I paid to the plumbing company ($2250). Dave says that he has repeatedly contacted Accounts Payable to check on the status of my claim. But despite my regular requests for help, I have not received any assurance the claim is being processed or when to expect the reimbursement. It is now July—3 months since I alerted AEG to the problem. Please assist me with this request. Thank you for any help you can provide. On Friday, July 12, a crew from JE Reedy pushed through my double locked gate to clear a path so they could install fiber overhead (in a neighborhood that already has fiber). They seriously cut at least 3 trees: 2 are trees that get no taller than 15 feet, and a pine that was near the pole they needed to climb (Duke has cleared this area for years and never had to hack the pine). They said that they came by on Thursday but they did not leave any notice that they would be working in my backyard so they were trespassing. They could have done their work without destroying my fence row but that would have involved creativity and a little effort. I am sickened, angry and sad and want someone in the City to see this mess and come up with a way to make this right. I have several photos but could only upload one.

After the wind storm prior to July 4th. a tree blew down in the street at my property located 1601 s. walnut. in an attempt to clear the street, city worker pushed the tree against the home located there. the branches on the tree caught under the rubber portion of the roof on the home. the tree lifted the rubber membrane causing a leak into the home. i need to know who i can contact for relief from repair cost from this incident. i would hope the operator of the equipment did not realize the damage caused and that is why it was not reported or brought to my attention. just need to know who to contact. if i need to come in person still just need to know whom to contact. your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

On the Saturday a couple weeks ago on the day of the Michigan football game, they open the road back up after shaving down the asphalt and left the 6 inch steel plumbing fixture of some type sticking up in the middle of the center lane. It broke off by the time I came back around to take a photograph, but I took a picture of the hole where it broke off at and a picture of it. I can’t believe I let this sticking that high out of the ground. it destroyed my tire bit my strut and caused some damage to my car, which was completely unacceptable. There’s no way to see it with the car in front of me until I hit it and I was careful around all these areas but they left two and 3 inch lifted up, plumbing all over the area not to mention multiple inch edges where they cut down. There’s no way a car can handle any of these situations especially not the 6 inch steel shown in the picture. Who do I talk to you about getting my car fixed? This was complete negligence not to mention extremely unsafe thank you.

Good morning, there are 2 enormous pot holes directly in front of our 2 parking spaces and have been watching them continue to increase in depth and size (probably primarily due to the trash trucks that drive right over them twice a week) since we moved in here a year ago. I haven't complained about them previously, but back in November 2024 I had to get help from St. Vincent De Paul to help replace CV joints, ball joints, multiple other parts and ended up having to replace my front axle, as well, directly after having to drive through these potholes to get into our parking spot for a total of approximately $995. St. Vincent De Paul was very generous and helped us by paying $500 towards our bill and I paid the balance. In addition, a few weeks ago, after scraping bottom once again on the Southern most of these two potholes. I ruptured a brake line, lost control of my vehicle temporarily and had to spend another $395. last month to repair that. Unfortunately I am on a fixed income and this caused us to be late again on our rent. I just cannot afford to not say anything now as I am a disabled single mother trying to get my youngest through college at IU Bloomington. Could someone please respond letting me know if there is any reimbursement for damages or recourse I might have for these multiple damages to my vehicle and when approximately these holes might get some attention? I do have receipts from the repairs. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter and your reply to my inquiry as to reimbursement or recourse. Twice in the past 4 months I have had to be late on my rent to continue to have a vehicle to secure food for my family as I am on SSDI and the sole income in our household and am trying to keep my rent current and credit up so as to qualify for a mortgage again in the near future.
