Sidewalk & Curb Complaints

Case Date:
6/14/2013

This is the third time we are contacting the city about this problem. We have a culvert that heads west of our house for one block. Our house is on the bottom of the street, so all the debris when flooding happens lands in our culvert and yard. The house west of ours at 1928 Ruby Lane has several big holes in their culvert which are larger than 3 feet. The debris from their destroyed concrete comes down to our culvert and blocks the waterway. I am including pictures. Last year the city fixed the culvert on a house 5 houses up from us, but didn't fix the rest of the culvert. Please advise what to do. Thank you

Sidewalk & Curb Complaints

The sidewalks on the west side of rogers just south of Bloomington Iron & Metal (about 9th street) flood when it rains. A stream flows out of BIM at the south side of their driveway, across the driveway cut for the gym, and then across both driveway cuts for the big one world parking lot. When it is raining hard, there is no way to traverse the gym driveway without standing in 3+ inches of water. Did you know BIM is a superfund site?

Sidewalk & Curb Complaints

I live at the corner of 16th and Hancock . I have two points to address. the first, is thtat I talked with an individual last year involved with storm water just after the culvert at my corner had been replaced, and advised this had been a missed opportunity to upsize this culvert, and that I had witnessed overflow of the corner culvert in a number of storms. this past tuesday, August 9, 2022, we had about an hour of rain. Included are pictures of the overflow that lasted about 45 minutes after rain had ceased. My street has recently been repaved and i thought , perhaps a remedy might be included in this process, however, no. Additionally, thegravel shoulder that has been added to finalize this new repaving process has stopped short of my property, and the new asphalt topping was not tapered onto my asphalt driveway, even though they primed a sweep into my drive, indicating to me that bonding a transition had probaly originally been intended. Now i have a bump approaching the street that is collecting gravel from these overwash events. the North side of 16th between Monroe and Hancock has not had a gravel shoulder appliction. Is ther more work scheduled to complete the gravel shoulder. Please view the pictures included. thanks, bill Goodhew PS I have two more pictures, but this report format does not allow me to load more than one. Happy to send them to someones phone

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

3519 S Tudor LN

Case Date:
1/25/2017

We had our basement flood (wet carpet in half the basement) on January 20, 2017 without any previous sign of leakage on that side of the house. The source of the water is unclear, but I'm wondering if the home (built ca. 1973) has a footer drain connected to the storm drain. Kevin Potter is coming out to inspect for structural damage at 2 pm today (1/25/17) The city storm drain was updated within the past two years with the new pipe starting at the down-slope corner of our property. The neighbor two houses up-slope from us discharges a lot of water from his property and had excavation work done near the end of his french drain on the 18th or 19th. Part of this work involved off and onloading a sizeable backhoe in front of our driveway near where the old and new drain pipe would be joined. I'm not sure what work the neighbor had done. In addition to his drainage, the neighbor immediately down slope from us was also draining his pool into the storm drain on what had been a very rainy week. Is it possible to send a city employee out to see whether some combination of these activities has caused the drainage system to fail or otherwise backflow into our house? Thanks!

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

Case Date:

The construction at 4th & Rogers(The old Auxiliary Police Building) They have broken through the storm pipe that runs under the back of the building. Thay say all they have to do is fill it with gravel and it will bo ok. This storm drain handles all the street drains in the area. Can they do this? It is part of the drain that flows into the Jordan River.

I do not know if this is a problem, but Longfei restaurant is dumping various kinds of restaurant waste and wastewater into the storm drain in the alley between Longfei and Trinity church. The drain is clearly labeled "no waste", but they are indifferent to this.

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

1000 S High ST

Case Date:
4/1/2016

I have traveled High Street between Arden Rd. and 3rd Street twice a day for the last ten years. Every time there is a heavy rain, water accumulates and flows down High Street between E. Mores Pike and 2nd St. forcing me to move to the other lane to avoid going through large amounts of water creating a very unsafe situation. I was delighted to see this section of High Street repaved last summer and noticed the sewers also being worked on. I assumed, incorrectly, that the runoff problem would be corrected during this maintenance project. Since the paving the runoff has actually gotten worse. Are there plans to fix this unsafe situation so cars can travel safely on High Street without endangering drivers and pedestrians? I regularly see in the Herald Times where is city is allocating and spending money on hiking and biking trails, sidewalks and various pedestrian conveniences. Why don’t we spend some of that money on making our streets safe and passable? Looking forward to your reply, Franklin Lograsso Bloomington cc: David Rollo

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

1912 S Wilton DR

Case Date:
7/14/2016

Have been having ongoing issues with storm water running down Wilton St. from Arden Dr. and Hillside Dr. Was told Wilton St. was going to be repaved (about two years ago). Street patchwork has began washing out. Storm drains in front of her home were allegedly installed improperly. Has had minimal contact with Phil Peden, Utilities, but not satisfied with City's actions to date.
