From an international student friend who lives in the apartments off Hagan St: "The area where I live does not have many public lights. When we students come home late in the night, we get off the bus and it is very dark, it is kind of eerie to walk in such a dark area, even if it is just less than half a mile. It really strikes me that there is no public lights in an area like that, where there are hundreds of students. I was wondering if it is possible at all to contact somebody from the city government and request that a lamp be set up there -it is the corner of Hagan St and S. Park Ridge Rd. I guess students come and go every year and nobody really cares or speak up about things like that, which may appear insignificant, but kind of matter. It is so dark, that sometimes when I come back home carrying my laptop with me, I need to be careful so as not to bump into something and fall and break the laptop. It is like you cannot actually see where you are walking. I have wondered how these sort of things are handled here in bloomington. So I am just curious to know if you think there is something that can be done to get some public lights in these streets." - Lina Ochoa

I am writing you with concerns about work being done around the city by AT&T subcontractors to lay fiber optics cable around the city. Should you talk to individuals in several neighborhoods where they have worked there is dissatisfaction. The subcontractors have at times leaving large scars across the properties of homeowners for which they then failed to make adequate repairs. Part of our sprinkling system no longer works. One of our neighbors has a 30 to 40 foot long scar across the side of his yard and the subcontractors buried both the meter for his water as well as one drain pipe from his gutters (I am including photographs). In talking to the Hallmark Management Corporation, we are not the only homeowners association that has had these kinds of experiences. I have tried to reach out to AT&T and was given assurances that I would hear back from them in an effort to resolve the situation. I have never heard back. I know the representatives from Hallmark have also been trying to reach out to AT&T without success, Can the City help to reach out to AT&T and raise these issues. While digging holes for a tree planting on 4/30 behind St. Thomas, we found 3 thin utility lines in one of the dug holes (lines were not harmed) -- our 811 ticket was completed, so we think these may be inactive lines but wanted to make sure before we put the tree in that spot. Is this something the CoB can check on? Thanks!

Creeping around at night

I need to know who to contact about a construction permit displaying in the window. The owner listed on the sign is fraudulent. The locks have been changed. My sister Christine Wilhelm and son Charles Swinehart are the Owner. My brother has been in hospital and nursing care since July 1st 2016. He has been released but now he has no place to reside. Sheriff office responded to trespassing call on Saturday morning. They only said that it is a civil matter. I do not have permit number from the sign but it is dated 12/7/16.
