Downtown square
- Case Date:
- 3/14/2025
As the weather warms up, there are more and more bicyclists on the sidewalk on the square one just nearly ran over my toddler and me. I told him he was in a dismount zone. He asked where that was posted and I was unable to find a sign with that information. If that has not been repealed, it needs to be better communicated and enforced. Thank you.

E 1st St & S High St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA

Next week the Roger's School will start. The school, since August of 2021, has instructed parents to drop off and pick up students to and from the parents' vehicles by using the 1st St entrance off S High St to the Faculty and Staff parking area. This is a drive-through use which is not allowed in the MI zone. Variance V-17-14 addressed this issue stating that the central area to the east of Rogers School was to be used for student drop off and pick up and that the west parking area was to be used by only the Faculty and Staff. This was clearing stated in both the Planning Staff report and testimony as well as the MCCSC representatives' letters and under oath testimony. This restriction of no student drop off and pickup in the west parking area was a continuation of the policy that MCCSC agreed to with the City several years earlier. The west parking area has a gate and signs that limit access to Faculty and Staff only.
In August of 2021, MCCSC and Roger's School started to allow student drop off and pickup in the west parking area has a Covid related safety issues. The Roger's Principal stated that this drop off and pickup policy would be temporary. The Covid issue is no longer relevant but the drop off and pickup continues. As a result, at the school start and end times, S High St is often backed up to the 2nd and Maxwell Streets intersections. E 1st street is backed up past Clifton and the driveways on 1st Street are blocked.
I ask the City to enforce the UDO and the variance statements. Student drop off and pickup by parents in vehicles should be restricted to the central area only. This was the plan as stated by the City and MCCSC and is consistent with not allowing drive-throughs in the MI zone.
Biking & Walking
E 4th St & S Lincoln St, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA
- Case Date:
- 9/28/2022
Ever since 4th St re-opend (one lane, then all lanes) people/vehicles are constantly RUNNING the STOP SIGN northbound at 4th & Lincoln. I walk through this intersection at least twice each day. Many just blow through this intersection without even looking. It happened, again, this morning. I was half-day across Lincoln going east. The go-straight lane stopped, but the turn right lane did not even look my way and went ahead and turned right without stopping. The stop signs are clearly visible. What the heck?
Biking & Walking
E 7th St between Washington and Lincoln
- Case Date:
- 5/16/2025
When heading east on 7th st between Washington and Lincoln, we seriously need a sign pointing out to drivers that it is a bike lane only on their right.
There's a lot of confusion with the parking lot entrances there. This is the 2nd time I've seen a car driving in the bike lane, then turn left on Lincoln.
Traffic Suggestions
E Burks Dr & S Walnut St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA
- Case Date:
- 5/24/2023
The intersection of Burks Drive and Walnut Street needs to be crossed by pedestrians and cyclists fairly often, but there is lots of high speed traffic on that road. Pedestrians coming from the residential areas around Burks have no way to safely cross Walnut Street. The sidewalk on the east side of walnut is currently closed, but it is missing several sections even when it is open, so you can't even walk along Walnut to the crossing at Rhorer Road. This problem will be exacerbated by the new library branch. Residents east of Walnut will have no way to safely and easily reach the library except by car. There needs to be a light and crosswalk of some sort installed so that it is passable.

Excessive Growth
E Ridgeview Dr, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA
- Case Date:
- 5/17/2021
There are a few areas on E Ridgeview Dr. and E Sunny Slopes Dr. that the roads are partially blocked by low hanging trees. Specifically across from 214 E Ridgeview Dr. This is any already blind curve, but the tree is hanging too far into the street making it unsafe because drivers are swerving to miss it and not seeing oncoming traffic, also making it unsafe work those walking. Last year it was partially trimmed back by the city. We would like it trimmed back to the edge of the road. Thank you!
