Drainage or Runoff

1210 W Cottage Grove AVE

Case Date:
4/24/2024

Hi there - the Habitat for Humanity build on Cottage Grove has a lot of erosion and the drain in front of the property is completely clogged. I connected with someone from Habitat about it at a social gathering a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure it was remembered. It would probably have more heft getting connected by the City. Thanks for all you do - very much appreciate the quick and thorough work of the CBU employees in this area during the recent heavy rains!!!

Line of Sight

1210 S Park AVE

Case Date:
8/25/2019

I have lived on South Park Avenue for over a year and have found that the brush and foliage at 1200 South Park Ave (at the corner of South Park Ave and Grimes) is becoming a hazard for those turning out of South Park onto Grimes. The foliage has become so overgrown that it is very difficult to see the traffic coming from the left when you are stopped at the intersection and about to turn onto Grimes. You have to edge out quite far without being able to see the oncoming traffic. It is also very difficult to see South Park Ave. (and any potential cars turning out of the street) when you are traveling East along Grimes. The inhabitants of the home are not known within the neighborhood and so no one feels comfortable asking the owners/tenants to trim their trees and foliage. I am concerned that as the foliage continues to grow unabated that there could be a serious accident at this intersection. Not only is this a concern for those of us who live on South Park Ave., but for those who drive down our road each day to pickup and drop off their children at Templeton Elementary.

Biking & Walking

121 N Pete Ellis Dr, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Case Date:
11/6/2023

There are some new safety concerns since the "Relato" building opened next to the multi-use path between Pete Ellis and the bypass on 7th Street. First, there's a conflict point where the garage exits to 7th street. Cars are already pulling quickly across the path towards the street, while bike traffic doesn't necessarily slow for the blind corner of the garage exit either. I've included a photo of a location where this is handled better. This is from the new development on the old K-Mart lot which also has a garage that immediately crosses a bike path. At that location, green boxes with white chevrons appear where the bike and car traffic cross, indicating to both parties that it's a conflict point. ------ The second safety concern is where the multi-use path takes right-angle turn around the corner of the Relato. This used to be an empty field with great sight lines and now those sight lines are blocked. At this corner I have already seen what could have been a couple near collisions due to the shortened sight lines. A treatment that could help here would be what was done at the right angle turn going into the bypass underpass tunnel-- Add a solid center line going around the corner to indicate that parties in both directions should stay in their lane going around the corner. I feel that treatment has made the underpass corner safer and I think it would help signal safer behavior here, too. Thanks!
