Traffic Related Complaints
401 E 7th ST

Hello! On 12/9/24, I was involved in a car accident. I was driving west on 7th St., which had no stop signs along the stretch I was driving. A driver going north on Grant assumed it would be a 4 way stop, and after stopping, drove forward into my car and t-boned my driver’s side door. Both cars were totaled. My back is still sore. I am not sure if signage exists that cross traffic does not stop, or if a new traffic plan is in consideration, but I wanted to let someone know there was an incorrect 4 way stop assumption made at this intersection that resulted in an accident. Thank you for listening, for your time, and for all you do!
Sincerely,
Emily

The north end of this lot (adjacent to the RR fence and right next to Grant Street) is overgrown and there is a lot of trash that has accumulated in the area over the years. The trash is not as obvious during the summer when all the plants are leafed out, but right now it's easy to see it all. Broken glass and shards of metal, etc. Probably dangerous.

This intersection is BLIND to travelers on Grant Street. The building on the NE corner abuts the sidewalk (who allowed this to be built there???), preventing a south-bound driver from seeing cars traveling west on 9th Street, and it's almost as bad for travelers heading north. If the building at 401 E. 9th is allowed to remain standing, there should be at least a stop sign on 9th Street, since it is so difficult to see oncoming traffic.

Because this house is so close to the sidewalk, it is nearly impossible to see the E->W cross traffic on 9th Street when one is traveling south on Grant. An easy way to address this is to ask the owner to trim or remove the shrubs that are on the south side of the building. Of course, a better remedy would be to install a stop sign on 9th Street at this intersection, making it an 3-way (= All-way) stop.

There is a small area on the side of the road that has crumbling asphalt, which contributes to the storm water drainage issues as rocks get dropped into the drain after significant rain. Crews have patched areas along the street over the years, might be worth a review.
