A rubber boot is on the ground by the power pole. It appears to be an insulator.
There is trash, appliances, toys, an RV full of items never used and a van that is packed with trash bags, among other things. If this isn't hoarding, it is close to it. I've complained numerous times through the years and nothing really gets done. They cover it with tarps and that's about it. I'd love to see this property cleaned and kept clean. It is an eye sore and it is bringing my property value down. I couldn't sell my property right now because no on wants to live next to that! I don't have a picture, but you can look at the satellite picture on Google Maps and see most of it. I can take a pic if necessary.
Re: #165767 metal trash cans and car tire are not on his private property, according to Street Department. Also, the City never gave up right of way to alley before Habitat Street was paved, but property owner converted area to private use. He did the same thing with the Indiana RR right-of-way, but the RR cleared all of his junk out. City code prohibits open containers and trash being scattered. City code prohibits cans left on City Streets.
There are a lot of broken items or items that are NEVER used in the side yard and the back yard. This property is an eye sore and brings all of the surrounding property values down. The RV that sits in the drive way has not moved in FIVE+ years and is FULL of stored items.
I reported this problem on 7/25/24 and this was the response: "working with a third party contractor to schedule and abatement." Does it really take this long to take care of this problem?! It is now 9/13 and the problem has worsened yet again, and they have added two small Kroger shopping carts to the yard. I am sure city officials would love for this to be their neighbor! Please get this property cleaned up!
My trash was not collected this morning. (5-6-25) this is the second time it has happened it first happened on 4-22-25. My trash lid is closed and the waste is in bags. The can is always put right at the end of my drive (which ends on the road on Adams St). I just want to know why this is happening and what I can do to keep it from happening in the future. I pay to have the trash collected so I would rather not have to load it in my truck and pay again to have it disposed. Thank you.
There is a LOT of items in this yard. Items include a full sized refrigerator, a mini fridge, a window AC unit, a shopping cart full of junk, an RV that is full of junk without a door (it has been used for storage for YEARS!). Plus, many, many other things! People last reported this in early April 2025 and it is near the end of May and NOTHING has been done, yet the ticket for that says resolved. DOES THIS LOOK RESOLVED TO YOU? This is well within the city limits and as such it is the City of Bloomington's responsibility to ensure that this property gets cleaned up
There are 4 grade schoolers and a toddler living at 1402 W 8th. Several residents in Waterman push strollers. A blind man and his service dog walk to/from his home on West 8th. Drivers occasionally reach 50 mph on 8th street. A "slow children" sign might slow them down.
I live on the Waterman section of W. 8th Street. A few years ago, before the city repaved our road, there were yellow center lines and also marked roadside parking spaces. When will the city repaint those lines? It has been a few years already. We have an issue of people speeding on our road, which they do by driving down the center of it regardless of oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists. I think the speeding was less of an issue back when the road lines were painted because those lines prevented people from driving down the middle of the road like they do now. I think repainting the center lines and the parking spot lines, we could actually solve the speeding problem.
