There appears to be a small homeless camp in the backyard behind the unoccupied house with a tent and two abandoned vehicles. The house itself has been vacant for many years and none of the people staying there seem to be entering the home. A relative of the people who own the house, a man named Bob, began staying in the backyard over a year ago, but he has since left and other people are now staying there in his absence. Recently, neighbors have found human feces and needles in their yard nearby, creating sanitary concerns, as well as heard a woman yelling in what sounded like distress at night. Outreach to the family of the property owner has not been successful so far, so I’m hoping someone could please look into this situation. Thank you!

The Mayor's office should really post information on the city website and not just on Facebook. Facebook is a toxic platform that requires an account and residents should not be forced to engage on that platform just to get basic information. If the Mayor wants to post things there that is fine but it can't be the only source of information.

City Performance

Case Date:
11/12/2024

I am again seeing announcements for new hires for items like safe and civil cities with ZERO mention of the significant LGBTQ community in this town. All deserve safe and civil cities, including LGBTQ residents. A community under intense threat at the highest levels in years. What is the City doing to specifically serve and protect queer community members? Who is the staff member assigned to have expertise and devoted time to this task? And bigger question, what is the City doing to prepare for the Trump administration taking power and attacking the LGBTQ community. What plans are being made? What is the City doing to pledge and realistically defend the rights and livelihood of queer people as politicians attempt to destroy such families and eradicate this group from existence? Don't be blindsided. This will be where queer people go for those who remain in Indiana, some without choice.

Leaf Collection

401 N Morton ST

Given that the City refuses to fine residents who blow leaves and grass into adjacent properties and/or onto sidewalks and streets (or even just acknowledge the validity of a complaint made about it), it seems like it will be perfectly fine in the future for everyone to just rake all their leaves and grass clippings into the streets and let the street-cleaners deal with the mess.

Subject: Concern About Clogged Storm Drains on 1st Street Dear Bloomington Town Official, I am reaching out regarding an ongoing issue with leaves clogging the above-ground grated storm drains along 1st Street, between Henderson and Grant Streets. I previously reported this concern a few weeks ago, but the problem has reappeared due to the continued accumulation of leaves. The situation seems to have worsened following Bloomington's policy change to no longer collect unbagged leaves. As a result, many residents are no longer raking, and the town has become noticeably untidy. These clogged drains pose a significant risk of flooding when it rains, creating potential hazards for our community. I kindly ask for prompt attention to clear these drains and consider ways to address the broader issue of leaf accumulation to maintain the town’s cleanliness and prevent future drainage problems. Thank you for your time and assistance.
