The City does not maintain the trees between the sidewalk and the street on Adams. The trees and brush are overgrown with invasive species and the local residents are spending hours and money trying to maintain the weeds/trees that are impeding their property. The sidewalk is not accessible because the City has not maintained their portion of the land between the sidewalk and the street.
downtown on the square, in front of the "tap" nightclub (across from chase bank), today i noticed that there isn't enough room between a bike at a bike rack there and the outdoor enclosure for tables at the tap. there might be enough room for a regular wheelchair to get thru, but not a large wheelchair. and i am referring to someone who would be passing by there (not going to the tap). even though i am not in a wheelchair, that's what it looks like, so someone might want to measure the area there for a.d.a. compliance, please. thanks
Many trees and shrubs have caused walking on the sidewalks hazardous and difficult - especially in the dark. The streets are narrow and animals are constantly abound, making an option to walk on the road undesirable.
Phone call reported handicap ramp on building 600, 2500 S. Rockport Road, being inaccessible. Said landlord is not fixing it appropriately.
Massive piles of trash are blocking the sidewalk as of 8:45pm on Wednesday May 10. Piles are in front of 424 E. 6th Street and 426 E. 6th Street. Hopefully it is trash night and it won't be there in the morning.
Tree has fallen and is across the Polly Grimshaw Trail. This is just to the east of Pete Ellis Drive. Needs a crew with equipment to get in there and clear the trail. Thanks,
My friend, who uses a wheelchair for mobility, and I went to the Office Lounge on Saturday night. While the building is accessible the bathrooms are not. The door was not wide enough for him to enter and he has a small manual chair. A larger motorized wheelchair would not fit either. The manager apologized and offered to clear the women's bathroom, but he had already looked at the door and determined it was not wide enough either. Besides that, I don't think offering another genders bathroom would count as accessibility? I know the OL has been around a long time and I assume there is some grandfathering of pre-accessibility guidelines, but at some point don't they have to come "up to code"? Is that only if they do renovations? How long can they remain un-accessible? I hope there is someone who can address this issue because we would like to be able to visit the OL again, but will not if he can't use the restroom while there. Thank you for your help!
I have observed that a couple of the interpretative signs around City Hall are too high. Most of the signs along the B-Line are about 34" high. But two of them, one next to the Hopewell jar fountain and the other on the B-Line across from the Bloomington Banquet sculpture, are 45" and 43" high respectively. Small children and people in wheelchairs would not be able to read these signs. Those two signs, unlike many of the others, are not mounted in a footer. So it would probably be easy to cut a portion of the pole off and lower them so they are more accessible. I am sure both of these signs are out of compliance with the ADA. The bird and limes must be managed better. This photo came via FB to me today. I can also say while driving through campus one day I counted 7, seven, such incidents where scooters blocked accessibility. I'd also like to report I had 2, TWO, near misses as scooters riders failed to yeld or even slow down and look as they crossed and intersection. Please stop this nonsense!
