Russ thinks we currently have a competent & polite inspection staff. His suggestion is that property owners be apprised when changes in code or policy affect rentals (ex. fire extinguisher, Smoke detector). Couldn't we take 35 cents out of our take from each registered owner and send them updated versions of addenda, or especially the "pre-inspection addendum?" Some landlords operating under permit would even upgrade their properties early if the code change makes sense for helath/safety (fx)
Re: Thomson Park: the west border has tree grove with barbed wire fence. It's old and is piercing the trees. Some of the trees in bad condition. She wants someone to be aware and she would be happy to help remove it. She's very concerned about the condition of the trees.
Mr. Tarter had info. to pass on to a detective reg. a crime and says the dispatch office was rude to him when he was trying to help. Tarter continued to call and put through to the same recording and says after the third time the dispatcher, who refused to give his name, called him an "idiot." Tarter then wanted to speak to the dispatch supervisor who denied that the rude behavior took place and told him he would have to speak with Chief Kennedy.
Mrs. Werner called in regard to the Halloween activities that are provided by the City. She really liked the "Enchanted Forest", and feels that the current events scheduled center too much on horror, murder and overall negative ideas for children, especially young children! "When you see what's going on with children/young adults these days, the last thing the City needs to be doing is promoting such evil activity." She would like to see Halloween activities to be more like the "E.F.".
Mr. Alcorn is upset about vendor trucks parking on 3rd Street to deliver goods. He believes that they should not block one lane. He said the truck was parked at 631 East 3rd street- which does not have a alley behind the house. They also have a small parking lot.
Mr. Stewart & his wife are upset reg: the $75,000 that's going to be used for the Farmer's Market. They feel that "you're fixing something that isn't broke." They like the F's.M. jus the way it is in the old place, b/c the crowd's more vibrant. Now, they'll have that much farther to walk, and the $ could go to the skating rink to improve the ventilation with fans, by decreasing carbon monoxide for the kids.
Mr. Efiom brings his son to Banneker Center to play basketball. He is concerned about the staffing during the program and their lack of knowledge concerning the kids participating in the program. He feels the current staff is young and potentially unable to handle a volitile situation.
Caller is concerned about the number of trees @ Cascades Golf Course and @ Winslow Sports Complex (north and south of ball diamond) that are infested with bag worms. She is worried that it may be too late to save the trees and it may be too late to spray.
Comment/suggestion re: People's Park. Saw article in the HT about improvements. Would like to add a suggestion that the wall be removed. It attracts people to sit on it and attracts walkers-by to converse w/those sitting on it and blocks pedestrian traffic on sidewalk. In addition, it is dingy and unattractive. She applauds the Dept for its initiative to improve the park.
