Why for having such a vibrant and significant LGBT community does the City have basically no local recognition and programming? The City does a great job at promoting the Latino, black, women, children, and many other communities and groups. But as far as I know we have no LGBT affairs commission, no awards recognition, etc. Maybe I'm wrong? But none of my friends know either. It's more than about not being discriminated against, it's about celebrating a unique and important part of local culture. Thank you. Hope to see this changed. I know the mayor is a personal ally but how about showing it in office. There are so many things that can be done to do better on this front.

On Sunday a man was spreading weed killer on the lawn at City Hall. There were people with kids and dogs in the area that had no idea there was poison in the grass. Why was this allowed? Isn't the City supposed to put up signs if it uses chemicals on the grass? Why are they even using chemicals? This issue needs to be reviewed, if only for public safety.

Mrs. Leiter feels that every time *(pls. inquire w/ her for details) she's dealt with our Animal Shelter, the people assisting her have been unwilling and uncooperative. Her experience so far has been so negative that she went to Martinsville to adopt a pet instead of coming to our A.S. Caller complained about golf course manager's behavior. Said he should be fired for "throwing a fit" last Tuesday (9/16). He yelled on the course and displayed behavior unbecoming in a public place. Caller was very hesitant to provide more information.
