Hello -- Steve Akers here in the Park Ridge neighborhood. I have some items to bring to your attention regarding the Park Ridge park. Most are pretty obvious in terms of regular park maintenance and other points are from our stewardship observation as park users and close by residents. Please read through these points and be sure they are part of the on-going maintenance as we get closer to Spring, thanks.
- Mowing: the contractor you have subbed out the mowing to is mowing whether it needs it or not. This has been the case for the past year. The result is literally no grass. Granted the park is heavily used including a nearby daycare visiting 2-3 times per week. With this what we believe is excessive mowing, the leaves are ground to a power and the grass is till. Granted it's quite shady - but please manage the mowing service and please for a pretty aggressive seeding and fertilizing. The park is now just dirt so users have to clean their shoes after use, etc.
- Wood chips - regular maintenance. A good dose of chips are needed after a winter season use.
- Powerwashing: the equipment is in decent shape and not too dirty but a good power washing of all equipment would be great before the spring/summer season.
- Erosion: this issue is most noticeable in two locations. The hill to the south and the hill area beside the bike/ped path. With improved mowing and seeding, these areas may recover. But they do need some soil and minor leveling.
- Canopy: it's still an awesome upgrade but does need power washing/cleaning, or possible replacement.
We look forward to the park transitioning from winter to spring. The grill will hopefully be unsecured (the homeless have moved on) and the water fountain will be turned back on.
I am happy to meet you or any staff at the site to discuss my items.
One additional item: the Park Ambassador program does not include our park. I made an inquiry when the program began and was told the Park Ridge park was not part of the program. Would you reconsider? I know of neighbors who are willing to be named the Park Ambassador.
Thanks!

Park Ridge Park Sign needs a refresh:
As you see in the photo, the park signs needs cleaning and repainting. It also has a large hole from either a woodpecker or a bullet. In-person or focus in on the photo and you can see how the sign has deteriorated from the weather. Maybe even a new sign if the budget allows. Much appreciated!

A request to install a dog waste station at the Park Ridge park.
We have discussed preliminary logistics with staff member Joanna Sparks when she met with us on a related parks initiative. We believe the station will be well utilized and maintained by our park custodial staff member. He provides good consistent service by the way. Please consider this request, placed in a shady area maybe at the base of the ADA path close to the street circle level. We have many dog walkers in the area so it will be appreciated. Thank you -

Just suggesting the installation of soccer goals at Olcott Park for recreational purposes. There does not seem to be anywhere on this side of town that has them, if there is any place at all other than Karst Farm Park.

On August 21st, I reported a homeless camp at Wapehani Park. It was examined and reported back to me that the camp was on private property. I found this quite strange, because it is on a trail that has a difficulty marker at the beginning of the trail. It totally looks like the other trails in the park and there's absolutely no way to tell it's private property. At any rate, the homeless people have moved on and have left a large amount of trash in what I believe is the park. There are probably 15+ large bags worth of trash - clothes, books, pans, papers, etc. My original report was 165599. I really hope someone will look, because I really don't think what I'm describing is on private property. Thanks for your consideration!

The parking at Griffy Lake is insufficient for the current demand and the situation will likely only get worse in the future with the much appreciated upgrades to the trails and fishing pier. When the overflow parking is blocked off cars get backed up out to the street waiting for people to leave to take their spot. This creates a huge safety hazard for pedestrians and drivers alike. Could we look into some sort of solution to help reduce this congestion? Perhaps a carpool lot further away? A bus stop? Or even a way to walk from campus safely rather than it being a car required location. If none of those work, could we at least please have the overflow parking always open?

We witnessed a gentlemen badly scratch/dent his car today on the concrete block at the overflow entrance while trying to get out of his parking space. There were vehicles parking other vehicles in, vehicles parked along the roadside, and vehicles parked at the exit. In addition all day there seemed to be a line of vehicles waiting to park as well. Might I suggest that there be a shuttle bus from campus to here on the weekends when it is nice, or perhaps a marked trail that is walkable from parking lots further away (the other parking lot was overfull as well), or perhaps have a staff person on site to keep people/property from being damaged due to trying to maneuver in the parking lot.

Griffy is amazing, some of the best trail running around. What isn't amazing is the amount of trash in the parking lot. Some of it is old, some of it new. I was there after 8AM today, some it was probably left last night but regardless it could have been picked up right away this morning. Attendants didn't look busy, mostly getting tech neck. Cleaning up trash has got to be one of the easiest ways to make a positive impact, especially in a nature preserve. Thanks for your help.
