Had an arborist out on another street tree (Japanese Cherry) that needs pruned badly and some dead removed, but is otherwise healthy. While there he looked at a Red Sunset Maple that I thought had a lot of dead in it, just in the last year. His appraisal was that it needed removed and since a street tree he suggested I give the city a call.
Hi, I don’t know if the parks department or city cares much about it but there are large patches of Japanese knotweed growing along the trail. It's a tricky plant to get rid of and requires strategic doses of herbicide at specific stages in it's life cycle and for multiple years. Y'all might already be aware and I've chatted with a lady working on other invasives along the trail. I live in Broadview 2nd and have been keeping my eyes out for it to keep it out of the neighborhood. I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention. The subreddit for invasive species seems to have the most up to date methods of attack and discussion I've found. Cutting it down only makes it angry and dig in/spread more. It appears that the City's 2025 pool waiver eligibility policy has changed. In past years, waiver eligibility has been based solely on qualifying household income. Now, additional criteria has been added to also require a minor living in the household. Please consider returning to the sole criteria based on household income. It would be much more equitable to allow low-income adults to have access to city pools as well, even if they do not have children. Especially at a time with deep cuts to many federal resources for low-income people, local supports are more important than ever.
While l love the permeable pavers at Hopewell Commons, I feel they create an unsafe environment. The pavers cross Morton, making that area appear to be an extension of the park. It doesn't look like a road, so I fear park users, especially children, won't look for cars. I think warning signs or additional stop signs could increase safety
Lots of smokers at the park and splash pad. No signs saying no smoking. No signs saying smoking in parks is illegal.
